Manchester City will face off against Brentford in the 2021/22 Premier League season at the Etihad on 9th February 2022.

Runaway leaders Manchester City face Brentford in what promises to be a cracker of a game with two teams having a similar style and approach to how the game has to be played. Man City will be looking to establish a sizeable gap between them and second-placed Liverpool, whereas Brentford will be looking to flip the script on their opponents by upsetting the odds and taking the game to them.

Form Guide

Manchester City: W-W-W-W-D

Brentford: W-L-L-L-L

Manchester City has been absolutely sensational. They are a juggernaut that seems unstoppable, running over teams with relentless and brutal efficiency. Every time you think that this is the best that they can play, they will shock us by playing with an even higher standard the next game.

The standards set by manager Pep Guardiola have been taken on board by the players, who have been performing with style, grace, and panache. The way they have been performing, you cannot bet against them romping their way to another title come May.

Brantford, on the other hand, is suffering from a very poor run of form. With only one win in their last 5 games, they are in danger of letting the good work which they had done in the early part of the season go to waste.

They’re currently at 14th place, which does not seem dangerous by any means, but with the teams below them all having one or two games in hand over the Bees, any slip-up from here on will have them glancing nervously over their shoulder. Brentford has to make sure that they have to keep matters in their own hands, and the only way to do it is by winning games. A lot of games.

Head to Head:

This will be only the second time that the two teams will be facing each other. In the first meeting between the two, Manchester City emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory away. Phil Foden scored early on, and it could have been much more for the visitors if not for some resolute defending by the home team.

Team News:

Manchester City does not have a lot of worries in their squad as far as injuries are concerned. They have an almost clean bill of health, with Gabriel Jesus being the only injury concern. They have gone ahead and signed exciting Argentine attacker Julian Alvarez from River Plate, and have sent him back on loan for the remainder of the season. Apart from that, Pep pretty much has a full-strength squad to choose from.

Expect the likes of Ederson, Ruben Dias, and Bernardo Silva to return to the starting 11 after they were rested for the FA Cup game against Fulham. Brentford on the other hand, have quite a few injury concerns to worry about. Key players Bryan Mbuemo, and Yoane Wissa had tested positive for Covid-19 and it is not known when they will be available for selection.

New signing Christian Eriksen is also not expected to start, with manager Thomas Frank himself uncertain about his ability to play the full 90 minutes. While the manager has said that he has been doing well in training, it’s a different thing to be match fit and that is the part that he is sure about. so the ones will be on Talisman Ivan Toney to lead the team with his direct running and physicality.

Manchester City possible starting lineup- Ederson; Cancelo, Laporte, Ruben Dias, Walker, Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne, Foden, Grealish, Mahrez

Brentford possible starting lineup Raya; Pinnock, Jannson, Ajer, Canoe, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt, Henry, Toney, Mbuemo.

MCI vs BRE Predictions:

Manchester City will be expected to win this with ease. Yes, Brentford does have a couple of players who can cause a change in the narrative, and along with the fact that they always tend to raise their game a couple of notches higher against bigger opposition, Manchester City will definitely have a game on their hands.

Given that City will be playing home, and the fact that they themselves are in a sparkling run of form, expect the Citizens to comfortably get the 3 points.

Prediction: Man City 3- 0 Brentford

This game should be yet another easy win for the home side. Pep Guardiola’s team has been thoroughly professional so far in the season and are on top of the league. With some of the performances that they have showcased so far, they should not be dropping any points.

Keeping that in mind, this could be yet another clean-sheet for them. The team has looked solid at the back and only Ivan Toney could be the main threat to them, depending on how much time he gets to showcase his skill.

Despite that, the Cityzens have a good enough defensive line to keep out any rival attacks. Ederson too will be keen on keeping that clean-sheet and adding to his tally. Overall, it will have to be a brilliant performance form the visitors to get something out of this game that could turn into a goal-fest if they are not careful.
