MCI vs BUR, EPL 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions & Fantasy Team

Manchester City will try to cement their position at the top when they visit Burnley on 2nd April in the English Premier League.

The defending champions are being chased by Liverpool who have managed to cut back the gap between the two teams. City have lost their advantage in the title race and cannot afford to make any more mistakes.

Pep Guardiola’s men relatively have easy fixtures but they also are competing in other competitions which makes them a bit vulnerable in the long run.

City have dictated this kind of games in the recent past but Sean Dyche’s men have the reputation to frustrate their opponents as teams often find it difficult to breach their defensive shape.

The relegation contenders have been a regular in top flight football but this time it would be a huge task for them to give the relegation a miss. The Clarets are sitting deep in the 19th position and have only accumulated 21 points in 27 matches. They are on a three match losing streak and would try their best to get back to winning ways against an in-form City.

The Cityzens got the better of Southampton in the FA Cup quarterfinal and will be full of confidence coming into the game. But the defending champions have dropped four points in the last four matches which allowed Liverpool to enter the title race again.

They had a goalless draw against Crystal Palace but their away record has been brilliant this season and they will be banking on that.

Both the teams are standing at two different poles and need to win their remaining games in a bid to fulfil their goals. City will take the field after Liverpool play Watford in a lunchtime kickoff. If Jurgen Klopp’s side fail to beat the Hornets it would be a win-win situation for the table toppers.

A win for Burnley would ease their burden to some extent. They are submerged very deeply in the relegation zone but have played two games less than their relegation neighbours.

They will face Everton and Norwich City in the next two matches and favourable results in these two games could boost their survival chances. City are also scheduled to face Liverpool on 10th April and a win in this match could seal their fate this season.

Despite their struggle, Burnley remain a dangerous team and Guardiola will be aware of the threat Wout Weghorst possesses. The Dutch international who replaced Chris Wood is perfectly suited for their gameplay and can be very dangerous in aerial balls.

He has found the net just once in 9 games in the Premier League and would be eager to find the back of the net.

It remains to be seen whether Burnley manage to provide some stiff competition to City who are clearly the favourites in this match.
