Match: Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals (MI vs RR)
Date:October 06, 2020
Venue: Sheikh Zayed Stadium – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Mumbai Indians are in fine form this season, and will be looking to continue their run when they take on Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Mumbai have won three of their five games thus far, with one loss against CSK, and the other in a Super Over against RCB. They come into the game on the back of a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and will be looking to get the better of an inconsistent Rajasthan unit.
After winning their first two games, RR have lost their last two matches. They went down by eight wickets against RCB, as their batting failed to get going in the middle overs. However, in Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Steven Smith and Rahul Tewatia the team has plenty of big-hitters. They can be dangerous if they get going, though RR’s bowling might be a major worry in front of the big-hitters from Mumbai.
A hot day with temperatures near 40 degrees awaits. There will hardly be any breeze, and a humid, dry day is on the cards.
The ground here is flat and hard, which should mean plenty of runs for the batsmen. Spinners will get some help from the track as well in the second half of the game.
The team that wins the toss will be looking to bat first. Mumbai won their last game at Sharjah despite batting first, and they might not want to change the template.
MI Expected XI and Team News
Mumbai Indians have Chris Lynn waiting in the wings, but the Aussie is likely to warm the benches with Quinton de Kock coming to form in the last match. Mumbai are not expected to make any changes to their XI, which means Kieron Pollard, de Kock, Trent Boult and James Pattinson will be their overseas players.
Kieron Pollard: The big-hitting West Indian has 145 runs since he was last dismissed in the IPL. He has been batting with a strike rate of more than 2018 this season, and has been pitching in with the ball as well.
Quinton de Kock: The South African returned to form against SRH, and was the top run-scorer in the game for MI, with 67 off 39 balls. He is one of the most dangerous openers, and will be looking to carry on his form.
Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, James Pattinson
RR Expected XI and Team News
Rajasthan will have the services of Ben Stokes from later this week. Though the all-rounder has landed in the UAE, he is in seven-day quarantine, which means he is unavailable for the clash. Robin Uthappa has struggled, and Yashasvi Jaiswal might get a look-in.
Jos Buttler: The wicket-keeper is yet to fire this year, but he is too good a player to miss out for long. He had fired against Mumbai Indians last season, and will be looking to replicate his form.
Jofra Archer: The bowler has been among the wickets and has figures of 2 for 18 and 1 for 18 in his last two innings. He has also contributed with the bat, hitting crucial sixes for the team lower down the order.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler (wk), Steve Smith (c), Sanju Samson, Mahipal Lomror, Riyan Parag, Tom Curran, Rahul Tewatia, Jaydev Unadkat, Jofra Archer, Shreyas Gopal
Head to head record of MI vs RR:
The two teams have played 23 games against each other, winning 11 games apiece. Rajasthan have won all four games against Mumbai in the last two years, which should give them confidence. One match between MI and RR have ended in a No Result.
MPL Fantasy Prediction for MI vs RR:
WK: Jos Buttler is yet to fire in this tournament, but we have backed him to come good. The RR batters have struggled in the last two games, and they will need their premier batter to rise to the occasion.
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma and Steve Smith have been the top performers for their respective teams, and have been leading from the front. Both open the innings, and will be looking to anchor the innings. Suryakumar Yadav has played handy cameos in the last few games, and MI will want him to get a big score.
All-rounders: Kieron Pollard is in good batting form and is sending down overs regularly too. He was the Player of the Series in the recent Caribbean Premier League, and is worth picking at 9.5 credits. Rahul Tewatia has pitched in with both bat and ball, while Krunal smashed 20 in 4 balls against SRH, and has been picking wickets too.
Bowlers: Jofra Archer can contribute with his lofty sixes as well, which means that he is a must-pick. His teammate Tom Curran smashed a fine fifty against KKR, and he can pick up wickets consistently as well. Trent Boult has been economical, while James Pattinson is a great differential and is in excellent form with the ball.
Captain and VC: Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard
Match Prediction for MI vs RR:
Mumbai Indians are the firm favourites for the match. Not only do they have a more threatening batting line-up, they have a threatening bowling attack as well. RR seem to rely heavily on their foreign exports, while their pacers like Jaydev Unadkat and Ankit Rajpoot have been unimpressive.
