MR vs MS, BBL 2021-22: Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Melbourne Renegades vs Melbourne Stars, Big Bash League 2021 (MR vs MS)

Date: January 13, Thursday, 02:05 PM IST

Match 48 of the Big Bash League 2021-22 will see Melbourne Renegades take on the Melbourne Stars at Docklands Stadium on January 13. The Renegades, who have won only three of their 11 games this season, are currently placed sixth in the points table, and their chances to make it to the playoffs look slim. The Stars, on the other hand, are placed seventh after winning four of their 10 games so far, and their chances to make it to the top four are even slimmer than those of the Renegades.

The Renegades come into this game on the back of a loss to Sydney Sixers. The Stars, on the other hand, lost their last game to the Perth Scorchers by 47 runs.

Ahead of match 48, let’s look at the head to head total of both the teams, the pitch report, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for MR vs MS

A total of 49 T20 matches have been played at the Docklands Cricket Stadium in Melbourne, of which 25 have been won by the team chasing. The toss-winning captain is likely to bowl first. Melbourne Renegades team news and predicted XI

Team news: The Melbourne Renegades have only three more league games to play. Even if they win all three of those, their qualification to the playoffs will depend on the result of other teams.

Predicted XI: Jake Fraser, Aaron Finch, Shaun Marsh, Nic Maddinson (c), Mackenzie Harvey, Sam Harper (wk), Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, Kane Richardson, Josh Lalor, Zahir Khan

Melbourne Stars team news and predicted XI

Team news: Glenn Maxwell’s performance this season of the BBL has been much below the standards he has set for himself. The big-hitting batter has just 30 runs in his last five outings and will be expected to make amends for it in the last few league games that are left.

Predicted XI: Joe Clarke (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Nick Larkin, Joe Burns, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Sam Rainbird, Qais Ahmad, Adam Zampa (c), Haris Rauf, Brody Couch, Clint Hinchliffe

Head to head record

The Stars are far too ahead of the Renegades in the head to head total. The two teams have played 21 BBL matches between them, of which Stars have won 14 and Renegades 7.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for MR vs MS

Shaun Marsh – Batter, Melbourne Renegades

Shaun Marsh has been one of the better performers for the Renegades with the bat. The batter has 125 runs in four matches at an average of more than 30. In the game against the Sixers two nights ago, Marsh scored 39 but at a strike rate of only 108, and will be looking to hit the ball harder in the next game. The 38-year-old, who has also played for the Punjab Kings in the IPL, has played 201 T20 games, from which he has an average and strike rate of 37.70 and 128.24. He has also played 15 T20 internationals for Australia, but couldn’t achieve as much success as in franchise tournaments.

Sam Harper – Wicketkeeper batter, Melbourne Renegades

Sam Harper scored only 15 runs in Renegades’ last game, but at a strike rate of over 200. The wicketkeeper batter’s form dipped in the second half of the tournament, but he put up some fine performances in the first few games of the season. The 25-year-old has played 58 T20s, from which he has 1174 runs at an average of 22.57 and strike rate of 132.35.

Kane Richardson – Bowler, Melbourne Renegades

Kane Richardson has been among the better bowlers for Renegades this season. In nine matches, the medium pacer has bagged 18 wickets at an economy of 8.57 with the best figures of 4 for 32. Richardson will be looking to further increase the wicket tally on a pace-friendly surface at the Docklands stadium. He has also scored two double-digit knocks with the bat in his last two BBL outings. In all, the 30-year-old has played 137 T20s, from which he has 171 wickets at an economy rate of under 8.

Joe Clarke – Wicketkeeper batter, Melbourne Stars

Joe Clarke is the leading run-scorer for Stars in this edition of the tournament. The wicketkeeper has scored 303 runs in 9 matches at an average of 33.66 and a strike rate of 147.08. The 25-year-old scored four back to back half-centuries before breaking the streak in the previous game. Clarke is a clean hitter of the ball and boasts of a strike rate of above 150 in his 102-match T20 career. He is also efficient behind the wickets.

Aaron Finch – batter, Melbourne Renegades

Going by his standards, Aaron Finch has underperformed this season, but his experience still makes him a good pick for your MPL fantasy team. With only three more games left, the Australian international will be looking to end the season with a couple of runs under his belt. Finch has two half-centuries this season and will be hoping to score a third one against the Stars, whose bowling unit is lacklustre.
