MUN vs TOT, EPL 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions & Fantasy Team

Manchester United will host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday evening at Old Trafford in a fascinating match between two top-four rivals.

United was beaten 4-1 by their archrivals Manchester City in their previous outing, while Antonio Conte’s side defeated Everton by five goals.

If the flaws in Rangnick’s foundation weren’t previously visible, they surely are now, after the Red Devils were outclassed and outfought by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last weekend, resulting in a 4-1 thrashing. There have been several tales of dissatisfaction among the club’s ranks.

After Jadon Sancho’s equaliser, Kevin De Bruyne assisted himself with two goals on either side of it- with neither Victor Lindelof nor Harry Maguire basking in glory – and Riyad Mahrez added two more goals in the second half to further scupper Man United’s Champions League hopes.

After holding on to fourth place in the table for so long, Manchester United has now been surpassed by Arsenal, who also have three games in hand. However, a win for fifth-placed Man United here will see them return to the Champions League places before Arsenal’s next match against Leicester City a day later.

Also to be considered is the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal encounter against Atletico Madrid, although with the Red Devils having failed to win any of their past three matches across all competitions, there is little reason for hope among the Old Trafford faithful at this point in time.

Despite the fact that Rangnick’s team has put together a four-match undefeated streak at home in the Premier League – surrendering just one goal in that span – it is possible that they may come up short against an opponent who has set his eyes on Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record.

When it comes to Antonio Conte, consistency is the watchword. The Premier League and Serie A champion coach has presided over a mixed bag of excellent and dreadful outcomes in North London, but his team needed no second invitation to thrash Everton 3-0 in their most recent outing.

Spurs romped to a 5-0 victory over Arsenal in a match that saw Harry Kane surpass Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in the all-time Premier League goalscoring charts with his 175th and 176th strikes in the competition. Son Heung-min, Sergio Reguilon, and Michael Keane own goal all contributed to the rout, which was a very welcome sight for all Tottenham supporters.

Tottenham has rekindled their chase of a top-four finish after securing back-to-back Premier League victories, including a 4 goals thrashing of Leeds United. Spurs can regain their position in the top four with a victory at Old Trafford, but they would need to do so by a five-goal margin in order to do so.

Spurs have, of course, had recent success on Manchester soil, and they have developed a pattern of winning one and then losing one away from home since the turn of the year, which speaks well for them after their FA Cup loss to Middlesbrough earlier this month.

Man United stormed to a 3-0 victory on Tottenham’s turf in a game that ultimately cost Nuno Espirito Santo his job earlier in the season. However, Jose Mourinho embarrassed his former club with a 6-1 victory at Old Trafford last season, and Tottenham’s recent hot streak in front of goal means that such an unbelievable scoreline is not entirely out of the question here.

Manchester United Team News: Cristiano Ronaldo will be the centre of attention after the striker returned home to Portugal after suffering an injury ahead of the Manchester derby.

As a result of his hip problem, the veteran, along with Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane, are all question marks after their bouts with Covid-19. Edinson Cavani was also out from last weekend’s match due to a groin ailment, although he is expected to recover soon.

Tottenham Team News: Tottenham is concerned about Ryan Sessegnon’s muscular problem ahead of their trip to Manchester United. As a result of recovering from his knee injury, Japhet Tanganga is on the brink of returning to action, while Oliver Skipp (groin) is out.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Telles; Pogba, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Elanga; Rashford

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Reguilon; Kulusevski, Kane, Son

Two teams that may look fantastic one week and then look dreadful the next. The level of inconsistency between their weekly performances is the reason why they have been hurt this season. When you have an Antonio Conte team that was as good as they were against Everton and as poor as they were against Middlesbrough, predicting which Tottenham team will show up is very tough.

As for the Red Devils, Ralf Rangnick has failed to make his star-studded squad appear dangerous against even the most vulnerable of opponents.
