NED vs PAK 1st ODI Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Netherlands vs Pakistan, 1st ODI (NED vs PAK)

Date: August 16, Tuesday, 2.30 PM IST

Venue: Hazelaarweg, Rotterdam

Pakistan are in the Netherlands to play three one-day internationals which are a part of the World Cup Super League. The first game will be played in Rotterdam on August 16. Interestingly, the two sides have played very few ODIs between them in the past. This is the first bilateral ODI series between the two – they last met in the 1996 and 2003 World Cups and the 2022 Champions Trophy.

Pakistan are unbeaten in their last five ODI matches, which includes wins over Australia and West Indies. The side will be led by regular skipper Babar Azam, while Shadab Khan will be his deputy. Fast bowler Hasan Ali, who has reportedly had a fall out with the selectors, has been dropped and in his absence, Naseem Shah is likely to share the new ball with Shaheen Shah Afridi. Netherlands, on the other hand, last won an ODI more than a year ago. They will be over dependent on their captain Scott Edwards to put up good batting performances. The likes of Bas de Leede and Max O’Dowd can also put up a good fight.

The bilateral series will also serve as a good preparatory series for Pakistan ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins later this month.

Ahead of the first ODI between Netherlands and Pakistan in Rotterdam, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Weather update and pitch report for NED vs PAK, 1st ODI

The pitch at the Hazelaarweg stadium in Rotterdam is balanced and offers equal assistance to both batsmen and bowlers. We have not seen too many high scoring games at this venue and anything above 220 should be a competitive total. The average first innings score is 185, while the highest and lowest total recorded is 315 for 8 and 115 for 10.

The weather in Rotterdam will be mostly sunny and the skies clear. The temperature will fluctuate between 19 to 25 degrees.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI NED vs PAK 1st ODI

Tom Cooper – batsman, Netherlands

Tom Cooper is the third highest run-scorer for Netherlands in ODIs behind Ryan ten Doeschate. In 26 ODIs, he has 1049 runs at an excellent average of 45.60. He is also a capable off break bowler, having 14 ODI wickets under his name. He recently scored an unbeaten 81 against Uganda, before which he played a few significant cameos against England.

Babar Azam – batsman, Pakistan

Babar Azam, among the best all-format players in the world, is a good choice for your MPL team’s captaincy. He recently scored a century and two fifties against Sri Lanka in two Tests, before which he scored a century and fifty in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Prior to that, Azam scored two centuries in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Currently in the form of his life, Azam overall has a career batting average of almost 60 in ODIs.

Haris Rauf – bowler, Pakistan

The right-arm pacer recently picked up four wickets in an ODI against West Indies and will now be aiming for a similar spell against a low ranked Dutch side. Although Rauf has played just 13 ODIs so far, he has already established himself as one of Pakistan’s frontline pacers. In 13 ODIs, Rauf has taken 23 wickets.

Scott Edwards – batsman, Netherlands

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards was in dine form against England where he scored a half century in all three matches. Edwards is expected to be one of the key players in this series. He has played 22 ODI matches and scored 692 runs at an average of 38.44.

Shadab Khan – all-rounder, Pakistan

All-rounder Shadab Khan recently impressed in the Vitality Blast, where he picked up eight wickets in as many games. Before that, he picked up four wickets in the third ODI against West Indies. In all, Shadab has 69 wickets in 51 ODIs
