NIC vs PSG, Ligue 1 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions, & Fantasy Team

Saturday’s Ligue 1 duel at the Allianz Riviera will pit the first and third places against one other, with Nice hosting runaway leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the evening.

Les Aiglons come into this game having recently advanced to the Coupe de France final, while PSG defeated Saint-Etienne 3-1 in their last match.

After terminating Paris Saint-title Germain’s defence with a 1-0 victory over Versailles in the Coupe de France on March 1, Nice ended Versailles’ hopes of qualifying for the final at the Stade de France on Tuesday evening with a perfectly professional performance against their fourth-tier opponents.

Nice cruised to a 2-0 semi-final victory against Nantes, with Amine Gouiri and Kasper Dolberg netting goals in the process. Nice will now face Nantes in the final, with just one team standing in their way of a piece of domestic glory.

Aiglons were held to a goalless draw against podium rivals Strasbourg in their most recent Ligue 1 match, under the guidance of Christophe Galtier, who joined from reigning champions Lille. Galtier has overseen some magnificent changes to this Aiglons outfit, none more so than their newfound defensive solidity.

Les Aiglons’ Champions League fate, on the other hand, remains in their own hands, as they begin the weekend in third place in the standings, three points clear of fourth-place Rennes, while PSG is a massive 16 points ahead of their next opponents.

Nice’s 2-0 victory over Versailles in the Coupe de France marks the club’s third consecutive clean sheet, and with three of their past four Ligue 1 matches at the Allianz Riviera finishing in victory, PSG cannot be expected to cruise to yet another facile victory.

After Denis Bouanga gave Les Verts the lead against PSG at the Parc des Princes, a resurgent Saint-Etienne team threatened to cause an incredible upset at the Parc des Princes, but the title favourites quickly rediscovered their flow and pulled further away from the pack in the fight for the Ligue 1 championship.

Immediately before halftime, Kylian Mbappe would equalise for Les Parisiens before Lionel Messi sent him the ball on a plate to finish just after the restart, and the Frenchman would soon turn provider for Danilo Pereira’s header to seal a 3-1 victory for the hosts.

Mbappe’s 156th goal for PSG was equalled in that victory, putting him 44 goals behind all-time leading scorer Edinson Cavani. However, the Real Madrid-linked Frenchman will not have the opportunity to reduce the gap on the Uruguayan this week since he is serving a ban.

As much as Mauricio Pochettino’s side will miss Mbappe and his 14 Ligue 1 goals, Pochettino’s team has built up a 15-point lead over second-placed Marseille, which might come in handy considering that Les Parisiens have won just one of their previous five away games in the top level.

The runaway leaders have also failed to maintain a clean sheet away from home in Ligue 1 since October, and they were beaten to a 0-0 draw at the Parc des Princes by Galtier’s side only days before their penalty shootout defeat in the Coupe de France final.

Nice has performed well in the Ligue 1 this season under the guidance of Christophe Galtier, who previously led LOSC Lille to the league championship. They are presently in second place in the league standings and are considered to be one of the obvious favourites to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Nice, on the other hand, has only played one game in the Coupe de France, as opposed to PSG. They went up against SO Cholet, a team from the third tier, and had to work hard to get a 1-0 win, with Andy Delort’s second-half goal being the lone difference.

OGC Nice News: In all probability, Les Aiglons will field a 4-4-2 formation in the encounter, with Walter Benitez, Jordan Lotomba, Jean-Clair Todibo, Dante, Melvin Bard, Hichem Boudaoui, Mario Lemina, K. Thuram-Ulien, Justin Kluivert, Andy Delort, and Amine Gouiri among those who will take part.

PSG News: Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Paris Saint-Germain, must deal with a lot of players who are not available. It is not possible to take into consideration Leandro Paredes (Adductor difficulties).

Nice possible starting lineup:

Benitez; Lotomba, Todibo, Dante, Bard; Boudaoui, Schneiderlin, Rosario, Kluivert; Gouiri, Dolberg

Paris Saint-Germain possible starting lineup:

Donnarumma; Kehrer, Marquinhos, Kimpembe, Mendes; Verratti, Gueye, Pereira; Di Maria, Messi, Neymar

The loss of proven goal-scorer Kylian Mbappe is a major blow for PSG, and trying to break through a resolute Nice defence away from home will be a difficult task for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

In spite of the fact that we anticipate PSG to find a way through, Galtier’s side knows what it takes to achieve a victory against the capital club and will be boosted by their recent success in the Coupe de France final, so we expect the two top-three teams to play out a closely-contested draw.

Predicted Score- NIC 1-4 PSG
