NOR vs MCI, EPL 2021/22: MPL Preview, Predictions, & Fantasy Team

Norwich City will host Manchester City at Carrow Road on Saturday, 12th Feb evening in the Premier League.

The two in-form Premier League clubs from opposing ends of the standings will square off against one other.

The Canaries have gone undefeated in their past four matches across all competitions, while the Citizens haven’t lost a match in the Premier League since October of the previous year.

Norwich City has increased their chances of surviving in the Premier League during the last few weeks, amassing seven points from a possible nine in their last nine league games, one point less than they collected in their previous 12 league games.

A 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night was preceded by two key wins in January against fellow relegation hopefuls Everton and Watford.

Earlier in the game, Teemu Pukki gave Norwich the lead with a goal that took only 38 seconds to score. On the hour mark, Wilfried Zaha levelled with a superb right-footed shot from outside the box. A few minutes later, Zaha had the opportunity to put Palace ahead from the penalty spot, but he miscued his shot from 12 yards, which went way wide of the post.

When you consider that they were defeated 3-0 in the opposite match only six weeks ago, Dean Smith will take plenty of positives from the encounter, even if they only earned a single point.

After Newcastle United’s victory against Norwich City in midweek sent the Canaries back into the relegation zone, the draw against Crystal Palace was not enough to lift them out of the bottom three, even though they had played at least one more game than the other clubs in the bottom six.

The Canaries will now prepare for what will likely be their most difficult test yet this Saturday when they take on Premier League leaders Manchester City, a club they have lost to in eight of their past 12 league games, surrendering a total of 41 goals in the process.

Norwich has lost 13 of their last 15 Premier League games against the previous season’s champions, except for two 3-2 victories over Manchester City in May 2013 and September 2019. These victories should instil plenty of confidence and hope in Smith’s team as they look to cause another upset on Saturday against Manchester City.

In the wake of their amazing 12-game winning streak coming to an end in a 1-1 draw against Southampton, Manchester City returned to winning ways by defeating Brentford 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Manchester City’s leading goalscorer, Riyad Mahrez, opened the scoring five minutes before half-time from the penalty spot, scoring his 16th goal of the season in all competitions, before Kevin De Bruyne swept in the second to put the game to bed.

Pep Guardiola’s team currently has a dominant 12-point lead at the top of the table, albeit Liverpool in second place does have two games in hand, including a match against Leicester City on Thursday night.

With only one defeat in their last 36 Premier League games against teams who begin the day in the relegation zone, the Citizens travel to Carrow Road with an unsurprisingly strong record; however, that lone defeat came during their most recent such visit to Norwich, which occurred back in September 2019.

City travel to Carrow Road having lost 1-0 away to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season. They have not been defeated on the road in their last 11 top-flight games and have the best away record in the division, having accrued 29 points from their 12 games, five more than their nearest challengers. City has won their last three away games in all competitions.

However, although Guardiola’s side will have one eye on their Champions League last-16 clash against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday, they will be completely focused on earning all three points against Norwich City.

NOR vs MCI Team News:

In the victory against Brentford, Pep Guardiola used six substitutions, and he might continue to do so after choosing Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, and Ilkay Gundogan among his replacements at the Etihad Stadium.

Gabriel Jesus, who returned from international service with muscular difficulties that Guardiola warned the club would need to be cautious about, is now unavailable, and City is awaiting the arrival of Cole Palmer, who is also unavailable.

While Norwich City is still missing goalkeeper Tim Krul (shoulder) and midfielder Jakob Sorensen (knee), the Canaries’ Lukas Rupp (thigh) and Andrew Omobamidele (back) should be back in action soon. Because of sickness, Joshua Sargent and Ozan Kabak are both questionable.

Norwich City possible starting lineup:

Gunn; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Williams; Placheta, Gilmour, Lees-Melou, Rashica; Pukki, Idah

Manchester City possible starting lineup:

Ederson; Walker, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo; De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva; Mahrez, Foden, Grealish

In the Premier League, Norwich City is presently in 18th position, one point behind 17th-placed Newcastle United, who have a game in hand. Dean Smith, who has taken over for Daniel Farke and overseen an improvement in Norwich City’s performances and results, deserves to be congratulated.

The Canaries are still considered one of the favourites to be demoted. The fight they have shown in recent months may be enough to save them from falling into that category.

Manchester City, on the other hand, has been at their ruthless best this year. Their ability to smash their opponents with accuracy and elegance every week comes as no surprise to anybody, and their great talent is now taken for granted.

Despite the absence of a prolific striker, Manchester City has not seemed to be restricted in their assault. It is expected that Manchester City will be the favourites to win this match.

Score Prediction: NOR 1-5 MCI
