Match: New Zealand vs Bangladesh (NZ vs BAN, 3rd T20I)
Date: April 2, 2021
Venue: Eden Park – Auckland, New Zealand
New Zealand’s last home game of the season, in which they played – and won – seven series, sees them as the favourites as they host Bangladesh in the third and final T20 International on Thursday. Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell were the stars with the bat for the Kiwis in the second game, as they stitched together an unbeaten 62 off just 27 deliveries to post a stiff target for Bangladesh to chase in a rain affected match.
The home team were led by their bowling unit as again, as skipper Tim Southee and Philips ended with an economy rate of less than 7, which helped seal the series for the home team.
In the first T20 International, it was Devon Conway and debutant Will Young, who helped the Kiwsi over the line. Ish Sodhi has also been a standout for the side, and they are expected to have it easy against an inconsistent Bangladesh team that are yet to win a T20I game in New Zealand. Though Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam were accurate in the last game, the Bangladesh team will need to raise their game considerably if they want to get a win here.
Weather Update and Pitch Report of NZ vs BAN, 3rd T20I
The temperature will hover around the 20 degree Celsius mark, with a minimum of 15 degrees. However, the biggest concern will be the prediction of showers during the game.
This will be the first day-night game at the venue in five years, and we expect the chasing team to have a big advantage under lights. Short boundaries will mean plenty of sixes, and the team that wins the toss is likely to chase.
NZ Expected XI and Team News:
The Kiwis brought in Adam Milne for Lockie Ferguson in the last game, and the former impressed, with a spell of 2 for 34. Todd Astle is the only player who is yet to get a game in the series from the side, and we expect him to feature on Thursday.
Tim Southee: The skipper of the New Zealand team, Tim Southee has plenty of experience and was exceptional in the last game as he bamboozled the Bangladesh team with his pacey variations.

BAN Expected XI and Team News:
The Bangladesh side saw Taskin Ahmed in the XI in the second T20I in place of Mustafizur Rahman, and is expected to keep his place after an economical bowling spell in the last match. Unless Mushfiqur Rahman is fit, the side might not make changes to the playing XI.
Mohammad Naim: The batsman has impressed while opening in the twop games thus far, where he ended with scores of 27 and 38. He has countered the pace from the New Zealand bowlers well, and is destined for a promising future.
Liton Das (wk), Mohammad Naim, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah (c) , Afif Hossain, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmed
Head to Head record of NZ vs BAN:
Overall: The two teams have played each other 9 times in T20Is, with New Zealand winning all games thus far. The task, thus, is tough for the Bangladesh unit, who will be playing for pride in the upcoming match.
Player match ups:
Glenn Phillips vs Taskin Ahmed: Though the Bangladeshi bowler has been economical in the series thus far, he was taken apart by wicket-keeper Glenn Phillips, who has scored runs at a strike rate of 212.50 off him thus far. With Mustafizur Rahman unlikely to play on Thursday, the onus of stalling the run flow will be on Taskin, who will be looking to get his lengths right.
Liton Das vs Tim Southee: Though Tim Southee has dismissed Liton Das once in the ongoing series, the Bangladesh opener has smashed runs at a rate of 150 off the bowling of Southee.
- Mahmudullah will be playing his 55th successive T20I for the Bangladesh side. He has not missed a single game for the side since November 2015.
- Adam Milne played his first match for the New Zealand team since November 2018. He was recently signed up in the Big Bash League in December, where he impressed with his ability to get the new ball to move.
- Devon Conway made his T20 debut at the start of the season, and has already risen to number nine in the ICC T20I rankings. He has scored 473 runs in only 13 games, with four fifties, including an unbeaten 99, at a strike rate of over 151.
- Tim Southee picked up two wickets in the last game, and he just needs another 4 to complete 100 wickets in the format.
Match prediction of NZ vs BAN, 3rd T20I:
Des[pite running New Zealand close in the last game, the Bangladesh team lacks experience, and we back the Kiwis to complete a clean sweep.
MPL Fantasy XI:
Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Martin Guptill, Glenn Phillips, Soumya Sarkar, Mahmadullah, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mahedi Hasan, Tim Southee, Adam Milne and Shoriful Islam
Captain and vice-captain selection:
Martin Guptill: The New Zealand opener is getting starts in the last few games, but has been unable to carry on and get a big knock. He has quick knocks of 21 and 35 thus far, and will be itching to get going yet again.
Devon Conway: The New Zealand batsman made his debut only a few months ago, and has fast emerged as one of the most feared T20I batters around the world. He has great range, and will be eager to end the summer on a high.
