Pakistan Women vs Sri Lanka Women, 1st ODI:
Having swept the visitors by 3-0 in the T20I series, Pakistan Women will take on Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series at Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi. The first of three games will take place on Wednesday, June 1.
Pakistan Women claimed their first win in the Women’s ODI World Cup since 2009 earlier this year in New Zealand, when they defeated West Indies by eight wickets in a rain-shortened 20-over match. Apart from that win, the rest of the campaign wasn’t great as they finished at the bottom of the table with six losses out of seven matches and a lower net run-rate than Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka Women, on the other hand, missed out on the ODI World Cup after the qualifiers were called off due to the threat of coronavirus and the spots were decided on the basis of ICC rankings. They had played only one game in that tournament, where they defeated Netherlands by 31 runs on DLS method.
The three-match series will count towards and kick start the third edition of the ICC Women’s Championship from 2022-25, with the top six teams qualifying for the 2025 ODI World Cup directly.
