4 Players from Delhi Capitals to watch out for in IPL 2020

Having performed exceptionally well throughout the league stages and making their way into playoffs last year, the Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals will be eager than ever as they prepare themselves for IPL 2020, which is all set to take place in UAE.

Just to give a brief of how they performed in IPL 2019 – Delhi Capitals won 9 out of 14 matches in the league stages, then won the Eliminators against Sunrisers Hyderabad, eventually losing out to runners-up Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifiers-2.

They are yet to grab  their maiden IPL title, however, with the talent and experience they possess, this might be the year of the Delhi Capitals.

Here are the four players from Delhi Capitals to watch out for in IPL 2020

Amit Mishra

The leg-spinner brings in the humongous experience that he has garnered over the years in the shortest format.

He has grabbed 157 wickets in 147 IPL appearances, and has been a part of three franchises to date – Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and now at Delhi Capitals.

Expert in bowling leg-breaks and googlies, Mishra had impressive numbers amidst the turning conditions of Arun Jaitley stadium and Chepauk, wherein he scalped 63 wickets and averaged under 22.

Thus, with the venues at Abu Dhabi and Sharjah offering great turns suiting the needs of spinners, Mishra could be the go-to man for Shreyas Iyer and who knows, he could possibly be the X factor behind them lifting their maiden trophy.

Shreyas Iyer

Iyer has transformed into a completely different player over the last few years of T20 cricket.

From scoring over 400 runs in his debut IPL season for the Capitals’ in 2015, to maintaining the same thirst for runs, and now being a matured figure who handles dual responsibilities of a batsman and captain.

So far, he has struck 13 fifties in 62 IPL innings, and scored 1681 runs at a strike rate of 126.96.

He was in a good nick in the T20Is played this year, and the way he tonks the spinners for humongous sixes, one can very well expect them coming in UAE.

Ajinkya Rahane

Rahane’s arrival into the Delhi Capitals could be a blessing for Shreyas Iyer & Co, someone who could play the role of an anchor or accelerate when needed.

A quality opener, Rahane has had a great career in T20 cricket, especially IPL. He holds 3820 runs, averages 32.93, and has struck 27 fifties and a couple hundreds.

The Capitals would be banking on a player of his caliber to find the scoring rhythm early on in the season, and guide them to the knockout stages.

Rishabh Pant

Destructive left-handed middle-order batsman, Rishabh is one of those players any team would want to have at the current moment.

A future star in making, he has been scoring heavily in IPL, especially the last two seasons which has helped him garner sufficient attention with the cricket aficionados across the World.

Averaging over 50 and striking at a rate of 173.60 in the 2018 edition, Pant amassed 684 runs in 14 matches, comprising 5 fifties and a hundred.

His hunger for runs continued in the 2019 season, as he aggregated 488 runs in 16 matches at an average and strike rate of 37.64 and 162.57 respectively.

Looking at his form in IPL, he could possibly end up being the top contenders for the orange cap in IPL 2020, and help the Capitals’ get their maiden title win.
