5 players from Trinbago Knight Riders to watch out for in CPL 2020

There hasn’t been as exciting a team as the Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL history. Rated as one of the hot favorites for this year’s title, the Knight Riders would look to maximize on the home conditions of Trinidad and Tobago where the entire tournament will take place.

Though they finished at the third spot in CPL 2019, having lost out to Barbados Tridents in the Qualifiers 2, they had an average run in the league stages building up to the playoffs.

The three time CPL champions had won merely four matches in ten league games, something which was a big surprise considering they came into the season with titular wins in 2017 and 2018 editions.

Anyways, the last edition would have been a massive learning and one can vouch for them to go berserk from the first game itself.

Here are the key players from Trinago Knight Riders to watch out for in CPL 2020

Dwayne Bravo

A big positive for the Pollard-led side would be the presence of Dwayne Bravo who missed out last season owing to an injury.

It was under his leadership that Trinidad and Tobago franchise won all their CPL trophies (2015, 2017, 2018) and with him joining the tournament hosts this time around, it does add a considerable amount of balance to the side.

He is among the most experienced cricketers in T20 format, and is the highest wicket-taker in CPL history with 97 wickets at 21.52. Bravo’s experience with the ball coupled with the explosive cameos that he can render with the bat make him one of the key players for the Trinbago Knight Riders.

Colin Munro

The player of the tournament in the 2018 edition of CPL with 567 runs and 6 fifties under his belt, Munro comes as a natural inclusion among the list of players to keep an eye upon from this franchise.

Though the southpaw had a decent run with the bat last time around, averaging 33.30 and amassing 231 runs, one tends to expect more from a player of his caliber.

His 68* of 39 balls against Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2018 was a testimony to the Kiwi cricketer’s prowess as a match-winner in crunch moments. One shouldn’t be surprised if the Trinbago Knight Riders make it to the finals and the fans get to witness another Munro masterclass in CPL 2020.

Kieron Pollard

In Kieron Pollard one gets a leader, a gun fielder and an explosive middle-order batsman. With the bat, the 6’5 Caribbean giant had a season to remember. He averaged 58.16 and scored 349 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 159.36.

Having a boundary basher like Pollard at the middle, one can expect fireworks in the death overs and an additional 20-30 runs that can get their team to a winning position.

Lendl Simmons

It goes without a saying that Lendl Simmons is one of the most bankable openers in T20 cricket. Cometh the hour, cometh the man – that’s the kind of player Simmons has been in his CPL appearances.

It doesn’t take him much time before he unleashes his aggressive side and gets the ball out of the park on every other delivery. Taking in account the numbers he aggregated, one has to admit, the previous edition of CPL was his best so far, with 430 runs in 11 innings, 5 fifties, and a strike rate of 150.34.

Not to mention, Simmons was the second leading run-getter in the tournament last time which makes him one of the most anticipated cricketers in the forthcoming season.

Fawad Ahmed

The leggie brings with himself enormous T20 experience to the Trinbago Knight Riders which can assist the Kieron Pollard & Co in the middle overs. Last season, Fawad played for the St Lucia Zouks and bagged 10 wickets at 21.80.

He was among the most economical bowlers in CPL 2019 as he bowled at an economy of 6.41. In 23 matches that he has played in CPL, Fawad has scalped 32 wickets at an astonishing average of 16.28. With the forthcoming edition of CPL all set to take place in TKR’s home conditions of Trinidad and Tobago, one would expect the turner to render a magica performance this season.
