Match: Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars, PSL 2022 Qualifier (MS vs LQ)

Date: February 23, Wednesday, 8:00 PM IST

Venue: Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, Pakistan

Multan Sultans will take on Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2022 Qualifier at the Gaddafi Stadium on February 23. The Sultans had a great run in the group stages, winning nine games out of 10 and consequently topping the table. They recently smashed a record 245 for 3 against the Quetta Gladiators with Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan and Rilee Rossouw hitting half-centuries.

The Qalandars finished second in the table after the group stage, with six wins in 10 games. They come into the playoffs after a Super Over loss against the Peshawar Zalmi. Qalandars levelled the score after managing 158 in the second innings, before botching up in the one-over eliminator, where they set a target of only six runs.

Interestingly, Qalandars are the only side to have defeated the Sultans this season when the two teams met on February 11. Batting first, the Shaheen Afridi-led side posted 182 runs on the board, before bundling out the opposition for 130 runs. Fakhar Zaman was named the Player of the Match for scoring 60 off 37 and taking two catches.

Ahead of the PSL 2022 qualifier, let’s look at the head to head total of Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars, the pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.

Five players to watch out for

Here we list five players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for MS vs LQ

Mohammed Rizwan – Wicketkeeper-batsman, Multan Sultans

The Multan Sultans captain, one of the best T20 batsmen in the world currently, is the top run-scorer for his team with 479 runs at a strike rate of 130. In the most recent game against the United, the opener scored an unbeaten 51 off 42, which was also his fourth half-century of this season. Rizwan has played 55 T20 internationals, averaging more than 50 with a strike rate of almost 129. In other T20s, Rizwan has an average of 41.68 and strike rate of 125.42. Shan Masood – Batsman, Multan Sultans

Shan Masood has also contributed significantly to Sultans’ batting this season. He has 457 runs at a strike rate of 140 and only recently scored a 38-ball 57. Another good pick from the batting department of the Sultans would be Tim David. Although David has not been consistent this season, he has played a few quickfire knocks. Earlier in the tournament against the United, the all-rounder scored 71 off just 29 balls, with 60 runs coming from boundaries. He did something similar against the Zalmi, scoring an unbeaten 51 off only 19 balls at a strike rate of almost 269. The hard-hitting can be the game-changer on his day. Masood is priced at 10 credits, while for David you will have to shell out 9 credits.

Imran Tahir – Bowler, Multan Sultans

The legbreak bowler has 451 wickets in 354 T20 matches in his career. Tahir is priced at 9 credits.

Fakhar Zaman – Batsman, Lahore Qalandars

Fakhar Zaman is the top run-scorer for Lahore Qalandars with 521 runs at a strike rate of 157. Despite being dismissed for a duck in his most recent outing, Zaman still remains a good pick for your MPL team’s captaincy for the qualifier game. The southpaw brings with him the experience of playing 64 T20 internationals, from which he has a batting average and strike rate of 22.78 and 131.75. In 186 other T20s, he has a strike rate of 135.01. Zaman is priced at 10.5 credits.

Shaheen Afridi – Bowler, Lahore Qalandars
