Match: AS Roma vs Inter Milan

Date: 4th December, 2021

Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Rome

Time: 10:30 PM IST

Inter Milan are looking to dethrone Napoli at the top of the table

Having lost two of their key players in Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi and also their manager Antonio Conte, many would have expected reigning Italian champions Inter Milan to struggle in the ongoing season of Serie A.

The reality, however, is very different. They have been pretty solid this time around as well, as new manager Simone Inzaghi has done a fantastic job in marshalling his troops and sharpening them tactically. They have won 11 of their 15 games and have scored 35 points, behind only Napoli in the points table.

Inter Milan started off with a run of seven unbeaten games, out of which they won five matches. Lazio handed them their first defeat in their eighth match, but Inzaghi’s boys have made a superb comeback by remaining unbeaten in their last seven matches.

On the other hand, AS Roma have done a fairly decent job under Jose Mourinho. They have won eight of their 15 games and have picked up 25 points. They are currently fifth in the standings and have a six-point gap to make up with the fourth-placed Atalanta.

The Mourinho era started with three back-to-back wins, but then they lost three of their next five matches. After a decent comeback against Napoli and Cagliari, Roma again had a dip and lost consecutive games against AC Milan and Venezia. In their last three matches, however, they have picked up six points, losing only against Bologna.

Italian forward El Shaarawy is yet to recover from his calf injury and this game is likely to come too soon for him, while Ghanian forward Afena-Gyan has tested positive for COVID-19. Pellegrini, who has been Roma’s best player in this season, is out with a muscular issue.

Like Mourinho, Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi will also miss five players in this clash. Serbian defender Aleksandar Kolarov is lacking match fitness, while Dutch defender Stefan de Vrij is out with a hamstring injury.

Two more defenders in Andrea Ranocchia and Matteo Darmian will also miss this match – the former with muscular discomfort while the latter with a groin problem. Christian Eriksen, who is still in the Inter Milan roster, continues to miss footballing action, though it is now known that the Danish midfielder might not be seen as a professional footballer ever again.

ROM vs INT Top Picks

Edin Dzeko: Striker, Inter Milan

Edin Dzeko had big boots to fill at Inter Milan, as he was signed to replace Romelu Lukaku and the Bosnian striker has done a superb job so far. He has scored 10 goals in 21 games, 7 of which have come in the Serie A.

Dzeko has scored one goal each against Genoa, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Sassuolo and Juventus, while against Bologna, he got a brace. The veteran’s other three goals came in the Champions League, where he scored a brace against Shakhtar Donetsk and once against Sheriff Tiraspol.

Lautaro Martinez: Striker, Inter Milan

Dzeko would not have been as lethal in an Inter Milan shirt had it not been for his lethal combination upfront with Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine star has scored 8 goals in 19 matches, all of them coming in the Serie A itself.

Martinez has scored once against the following clubs – Hellas Verona, Sampdoria, Bologna, Atalanta, Sassuolo, Napoli, Venezia and Spezia Calcio. He also has got 2 assists to his name, which came against Empoli and Spezia Calcio.

Captain & Vice-Captain Selection

Edin Dzeko has been in fantastic goal-scoring form for Inter Milan and he will look to put up a memorable show against his former employers, which is why we have made him our captain. Lautaro Martinez has found his form recently and has scored in all of his last three games, which makes him our vice-captain.
