South Africa vs India, 2nd ODI:

Days after clinching the Test series, South Africa continued their merry way against India by winning the first ODI on Wednesday. The second ODI will take place at the same venue as the first game, at Boland Park in Paarl on Friday, January.

The Proteas won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first in the first ODI. After an early hiccup where the hosts were 113-3, Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen rebuilt the innings with their massive partnership of 204 runs. Bavuma was dismissed on 110 off 143 while van der Dussen finished with a spectacular 129* off 96 balls as the hosts posted 296/4.

In response, India were well on course to hunt down the target with Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli sharing a 92-run stand. But Dhawan (79) and Kohli (51) were dismissed in quick succession. India’s middle-order struggled badly yet again as they fell 31 runs short of the target. India will be desperate to claim the second ODI to keep the series alive.

It’ll be interesting to see if they continue with the same approach with the series on the line. Yuzvendra Chahal’s place could be under a doubt after failing to make any impact in the first game. If Venkatesh does not get a game, India might go in with both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav.
