Durban Super Giants and Joburg Super Kings will lock horns in the second game of the SA20 2023 on Wednesday, January 11 in Kingsmead, Durban.
The Giants will be led by Quinton de Kock, one of the most fearless strikers of the ball. They also boast of other match-winning players like Johnson Charles and Heinrich Klaasen in their ranks. Charles is likely to open alongside De Kock, while the middle order will see Klaasen and Christian Jonker bat. For all-rounders they may play Jason Holder and Dwaine Pretorius, while Keshav Maharaj and Akila Dananjaya will be the key spin bowlers. Hardus Viljoen, Junior Dala and Reece Topley will be a part of the pace department. Pretorius announced his international retirement on the eve of this tournament and will now look to light up the stage in franchise cricket.
The Kings, meanwhile, will be led by Faf du Plessis, and also boast of Janneman Malan and Alzarri Joseph in their ranks. Joseph was the leading wicket-taker in international cricket last year. Romario Shepherd will be their main all-rounder.
The Super Giants will be coached by former bowling all-rounder Lance Klusener while Super Kings led by Stephen Fleming.
Ahead of the second game of the SA20, let’s look at the head to head of both the teams, pitch report, weather update, top picks for your MPL fantasy team and more.
Weather update and pitch report for DUR vs JOH
The pitch in Durban is generally excellent for batting. Bowlers may not have the best of time on this wicket. The average first innings score in 18 T20s here is 148. Nobody has ever scored a T20 century at this venue but we still expect a score par 180, given the batting firepower in both the teams. The teams batting second have won 57.1% of the T20 games at Kingsmead, so winning the toss and fielding first should be the way forward.
The weather in Durban will be sunny and the skies clear. The temperature will fluctuate between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.
