Sachin Tendulkar‘s highest score in ODI cricket is an innings of an unbeaten 200 runs, which he scored against South Africa on February 24, 2010. He is the first-ever cricketer who went on to breach the elusive 200-run mark in one-day international cricket. It was the second ODI of the three-match series between the two teams, and the game was played at Gwalior. However, not many were aware that history would be created that day.

After opting to bat first, India lost Virender Sehwag early, and interestingly, Dinesh Karthik walked out to bat at three. But little did the latter know that he would be involved in a brilliant partnership with the master blaster. He was in such a good touch on the day that it was a chanceless knock from him. The then-skipper of the Indian team, MS Dhoni, was the lucky man to witness history unfold from the non-striker’s end as Sachin Tendulkar reached the first-ever double ton in ODI cricket in the final over of the innings.

He remained unbeaten on 200 off 147 deliveries with a whopping 25 fours and three sixes as India plundered 401 runs for the loss of three wickets in their 50 overs. The historic knock was not going to end in a losing cause as South Africa crumbled under pressure to get bundled out for 248 runs in the 43rd over. It is the most that he has made in an innings.

Tendulkar has come close to breaching the 200-run mark on multiple occasions but fell agonisingly short of it. The player with the fifth most ODI hundreds is Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, who redefined batting in the format. In 445 ODIs that he played, the southpaw scored 13430 runs and smashed 28 centuries.
