Sri Lanka vs Australia, 5th ODI:

The Sri Lankan cricket team lit up the island with joy in these difficult times with their first series victory over Australia at home in 30 years. The fifth and final ODI of the series will take place at the same R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, June 24.

The hosts defeated Australia by 4 runs in a last-ball thriller on Tuesday to clinch the series with 3-1 lead. Batting first, Sri Lanka were in a spot of bother with 3 for 34 inside 10 overs. Charith Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva then produced a rescue act with 101-run partnership. DDS scored 60 off 61 while Asalanka brought up his maiden ODI century (110 off 106) to propel the hosts to 258.

Australia were cruising to victory at one point with David Warner and Travis Head in the middle, with the scoreboard reading 189/4. But the Lankan spinners clawed their way back with three wickets in nine balls, including the main man Warner on an excellent 99. Pat Cummins scored 35 while Matthew Kuhnemann hammered three boundaries in the last over, with 19 required but couldn’t get the job done. DDS, Jeffrey Vandersay and Chamika Karunaratne picked two wickets each for Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Sri Lanka won the second and third ODI after losing the series opener. Australia would be hoping to finish the series on a high and get some momentum ahead of the Tests.
