Sri Lanka and Pakistan will face off in the next Super 4 fixture of the Asia Cup 2022 – in what could be a warm-up for the final. The two teams have secured top two finish and will meet at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, September 9th.
Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan in the first Super 4 fixture and then overcame the challenge of India by six wickets to secure their spot in the final. They were hammered by Rohit Sharma but made a good comeback in the second half of the innings to restrict India to 173/8. Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers with his 3 for 24 while Chamika Karunaratne and Dasun Shanaka bagged two scalps each.
Chasing the target, Pathum Nissanka (52 off 37) and Kusal Mendis (57 off 37) both scored terrific fifties at the top of the order as they added 97 runs for the opening wickets in just 11 overs. Sri Lanka fell off a bit but eventually crossed the line with Bhanuka Rajapaksa making 25* off 17 and Shanaka smashing 33* off 18.
Pakistan, who defeated India in the first Super 4 fixture, had a difficult time against Afghanistan but just managed to edge past by one wicket. Haris Rauf picked 2 for 26 while other four bowlers bagged a wicket each to restrict Afghanistan to 129/6.
The top order could not get going, losing 3 for 45 in 8.4 overs. Iftikhar Ahmed then scored 30 runs alongside Shadab Khan, who went on to smash a crucial 36 off 26. They suffered a big collapse at the back end, going from 87/3 to 118/9. All hopes seemed lost with 11 needed off 6 when the no. 10 Naseem Shah hammered two consecutive sixes to pull off an incredible win.

The Pakistan opener is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing Asia Cup, scoring 212 runs at an average of 71 with two fifties. Rizwan was terrific against India in the Super 4 fixture, hitting 71 in 51 balls. Overall, Rizwan has 1874 runs in T20I cricket at an average of 53 with one hundred and 15 fifties.
Dasun Shanaka: All-rounder, Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan captain is coming off a ‘player of the match’ performance against India, picking two wickets and then hitting 33* off 18. Dasun Shanaka has been brilliant this year, having scored 396 runs in T20Is at an average of 40 while striking at 145. He had smashed 45 off 33 versus Bangladesh earlier.

The 21yr old left arm seamer has only played four T20Is so far but has been mighty impressive. He has bagged seven wickets at an economy of 7.38. Madushanka picked 2 for 36 against Afghanistan and followed it up with a brilliant 3 for 24 versus India.
Shadab Khan: All-rounder, Pakistan
Shadab Khan has been bowling beautifully in recent times. The leg-spinner has picked 7 wickets in four games in the ongoing tournament at an economy of 5.79. Shadab was superb in the last game, picking 1/27 and smashing 36 off 26. He has 80 wickets in 68 T20Is at 7.03 rpo with three four-fors.
