India women clinched the T20I series against Sri Lanka on Saturday, taking an unassailable lead of 2-0 with a game to go. They will be eyeing a clean sweep when they take on the hosts in the third and final T20I at Dambulla on Monday, June 27. 

The visitors trundled to a five-wicket victory while chasing the target of 126 in the second T20I. The Sri Lankan openers put on an 87-run stand in 13.5 overs, with captain Chamari Athapaththu scoring 43 off 41 and 16yr old Vishmi Gunaratne making 45 off 50. India, however, didn’t let the hosts press the accelerator and picked six wickets in the last 19 balls. 

India were cruising the run-chase anchored by Smriti Mandhana’s 39 off 34 along with quickfire cameos from Shafali Verma and Sabbhineni Meghana. But Oshadi Ranasinghe and Inoka Ranaweera brought Sri Lanka back into the game and dragged the match into the final over. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a matured knock of 32-ball 31* to take the team home.

Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka has hosted two women’s T20 matches – both in this series. The pitches have been on the slower side with assistance for spinners. India scored 138/6 in the first game batting first while Sri Lanka posted 125/7 in the second.

Chamari Athapaththu: All-rounder, Sri Lanka

Chamari Athapaththu has been Sri Lanka’s best player and offers a dual value. She has been terrific in T20 cricket for Sri Lanka since 2020, scoring 482 runs in 13 games at an average of 37 while striking at over 140. The all-rounder has 14 fifties in her overall T20I career along with 31 wickets. Athapaththu is coming off a 41-ball 43 in the second game and can be a good C/VC option. She’s priced at 10.5 credits. 

Harmanpreet Kaur: All-rounder, India

Harmanpreet Kaur is coming off a ‘player of the match’ performance in the second game, where she picked 1/12 and scored an unbeaten 31. She became India’s highest run-getter in T20Is last game, having scored 2372 runs at an average of 26, including one hundred and six fifties. Kaur also has picked 31 wickets in T20Is at an economy of 6.17. She’s a solid C/VC pick, coming at 10 credits. 

Smriti Mandhana: Batter, India

One of the top players in world cricket, Smriti Mandhana has a good record in the shorter format. She has 2011 runs from 86 T20 internationals at an average of 26 while striking at 120. The left hander has scored 14 fifties in the format. Mandhana is coming off a solid knock of 39 in the second game. The opening batter is priced at 9.5 credits.

Radha Yadav: Bowler, India

Radha Yadav is India’s T20 specialist and has done extremely well at the top level. She has claimed 55 wickets from 42 matches at a strike rate of 16.5, with best figures of 4/23. The left arm spinner has been superb in the ongoing series, picking 2/22 and 1/15 in two innings. Radha will cost you 9 credits on the MPL app. 

Inoka Ranaweera: Bowler, Sri Lanka

The 36yr old left arm spinner has done pretty well for Sri Lanka in international cricket. Inoka Ranaweera has 48 wickets from 50 T20Is at an economy of 5.80. She has been superb in the ongoing series against India, picking 3/30 and 2/18. Ranaweera is priced at 8.5 credits on the MPL.
