Social media wrap for the week – From Fakhar Zaman’s 193 to Dhawan, Shaw’s heroics

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has kickstarted with the tournament opener being won by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a nail-biting fashion against 5-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI).

The fun continued with the second outing of the season that witnessed Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals beat Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring encounter at Wankhede. It was Pant’s maiden outing as a skipper for the franchise, a responsibility he will carry throughout the season.

Also, there were a few trends outside IPL that caught the attention of the cricket fraternity.

Here’s the social media wrap for the week –

Ravi Shastri impressed with the blistering exhibitions from Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan against CSK. The duo left no stone unturned in the mighty 189-run chase, which comprised a hefty 138-run partnership that set the foundation for the triumph.

Hemang Badani believes CSK’s all set to come back in IPL 2021. The Men in Yellow had missed the playoffs last season, which indeed was surprising as they had qualified in each of the editions played since 2008.

Kevin Pieterson lauds Rohit Sharma for playing for a cause – Saving Rhinos.

Brad Hogg hails RCB’s bowling attack in the IPL 2021 tournament opener against Mumbai Indians.

Washington Sundar celebrates RCB’s maiden win in IPL 2021. The all-rounder bowled a solitary over (13th over) but managed to uproot a well-set Chris Lynn on 49.

Krishnappa Gowtham receives a signed CSK jersey from MS Dhoni. The Karnataka cricketer was bought by CSK in the 2021 auction for a whopping Rs 9.25 crore. Earlier, he was a part of Mumbai Indians (2017), Rajasthan Royals (2018-19), and Punjab Kings (2020).

Fakhar Zaman elated after Pakistan’s 2-1 win over South Africa in the ODIs. He had smashed a 155-ball 193 in the second ODI for which he was awarded as the ‘Player of the  Match’. Fakhar then backed up with a scintillating hundred in the final ODI to be eventually crowned as the ‘Player of the Series’.

Khaleel Ahmed all warmed up for IPL 2021. The left-arm pacer scalped 8 wickets for SRH in the previous edition, with the 2019 edition being his best season to date, as he finished with 19 wickets while averaging a mere 15.11.
