The defending champions Southern Brave began their title defence with a strong nine-wicket victory over Welsh Fire but were subjected to a 53-run bashing in the second game at the hands of Birmingham Phoenix.

Zak Crawley scored 41 off 34 while Morgan made 37 in 26 balls before Kieron Pollard blasted an 11-ball 34* to push the total to 160/6. Jordan Thompson was the wrecker in chief with 4 for 21 while Liam Dawson and Mason Crane picked two scalps each as they bundled out Originals for 108.
