Southern Brave vs Welsh Fire, 1st Match:

The second edition of the Hundred – men’s competition is all set to get underway on August 3 as the defending champions Southern Brave kick off the action against Welsh Fire. The two teams will lock horns at the home venue of Southern Brave – the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday.

The format of the tournament remains the same as the previous year, with eight teams playing eight games each. The table-toppers go straight to the final while the second and third placed teams fight for a berth in the final.

Southern Brave had an incredible campaign in the inaugural season of the Hundred. They finished second on the table with 11 points, beating Trent Rockets in the Eliminator by seven wickets. The James Vince-led side then defeated Birmingham Phoenix in the final by 32 runs to clinch the title.

Welsh Fire didn’t have a good season, finishing seventh on the table with only six points. They managed to win only three out of eight matches. Jonny Bairstow is the captain of Welsh Fire but he’s unlikely to feature in the competition for most part with international commitments, with Ben Duckett stepping up.

1st Match: Five players to watch out for in the SB vs WF match

Here we take a look at five key players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI:

James Vince: Batter, Southern Brave

One of the most consistent batters in the T20 arena, James Vince has been in superb form in recent times. He was the top run-getter in this year’s T20 Blast, amassing 678 runs from 16 innings at an average of 48 while striking at 146. Vince scored two hundreds and three fifties in the tournament. He is a great C/VC option, priced at 9.5 credits.

Ben Duckett: Batter, Welsh Fire

Ben Duckett has a solid T20 record, having scored 3,815 runs in 159 matches at an average of nearing 30 with a strike rate of over 137. With 25 fifties to his name, he is a reliable captain/vice captain pick in the absence of Jonny Bairstow.

Tymal Mills: Bowler, Southern Brave

Tymal Mills remains one of the most prolific wicket-takers in the T20 arena. The left arm pacer has 198 wickets from 171 matches at a strike rate of 17.8 with two four-wicket hauls. Mills snared 15 wickets in just nine games in this year’s T20 Blast at a strike rate of 13.4. He will cost you 8.5 credits on the MPL.

Adam Zampa: Bowler, Welsh Fire

Adam Zampa is amongst the best spinners in white-ball cricket. The Australian has 238 wickets in his T20 career at an economy of 7.28 while striking at every 18 balls. He has three five-wicket hauls in the format with best figures of 6/19. Zampa should enjoy the long boundaries at Ageas Bowl. He will cost you 9 credits.

Tim David: Batter, Southern Brave

Having made his name with destructive hitting, Tim David will be one of the top picks. He has 2556 runs in his overall T20 career at an average of 34 while striking at 165, including 11 fifties. David did well for Lancashire in the T20 Blast, smashing over 400 runs in the season at 29 average and 175 strike rate. He’s priced at 9 credits.
