Suryakumar Yadav is India’s AB de Villiers: Harbhajan Singh

Mumbai Indians (MI) had a dominating show throughout IPL 2020 in UAE and eventually, the Rohit Sharma-led side got their hands on their 5th title in a span of 8 seasons making them the most successful franchise in IPL history.

One of the key players in MI’s conquests in this edition was an experienced Suryakumar Yadav, who kept scoring a chunk of runs against the quality bowling attack offered and ensured that the Men in Blue have a comfortable run throughout.

The Mumbai-born cricketer ended up as one of the highest run-getters for MI and acquired the sixth-spot in the leading run-getters overall. He raked 480 runs in 15 innings, struck 4 half-centuries, and maintained an average and strike rate of 40.00 and 145.01 respectively.

Highlighting his consistent match-winning performances, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter and labeled the Mumbai-batter as India’s AB de Villiers for the number of shots he holds under his belt.

“There is no doubt that Suryakumar Yadav has transformed himself from being the game-changer to a primary match-winner for the Mumbai Indians. He had taken up a lot of responsibility for their batting. And it is not that he plays at the strike rate of 100, if you see his strike rate, he starts hitting from the first ball itself,” Harbhajan said while speaking to Star Sports.

Suryakumar Yadav should have been selected for the Indian team, says Harbhajan Singh

Suryakumar Yadav has been wreaking havoc since the last three editions of the Indian Premier League. He has been, by far, the most consistent player for the five-time IPL champions. The 30-year-old aggregated 512 and 424 runs while averaging 36.57 and 32.62 in IPL 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Not to forget, he maintained a strike rate of 130-plus in both seasons. Harbhajan added that Suryakumar can play all types of deliveries and since he possesses a variety of shots in his armory, he should have been selected for the tour of Australia.

“It is difficult to stop him, as he has all types of shots. He hits over the covers, plays the sweep also well, plays spin well, plays fast bowling amazingly well. He is the Indian AB De Villiers. I feel he should have been selected for the Indian team. It didn’t happen, but he is not far away. He is an unbelievable player,” added the spin maestro.
