The Hundred 2022, match 5: WEL vs OVL Fantasy Preview and MPL Top Picks

Match: Welsh Fire vs Oval Invincibles (WEL vs OVL)

Date: August 7, Sunday, 6:30 PM IST

Venue: Sophia Gardens, Cardiff

Welsh Fire will take on Oval Invincibles in the fifth game of the men’s Hundred 2022. Both the teams have lost their respective opening games.

The Invincibles lost their tournament opener to the Spirit very narrowly. Chasing 172 to win, they fell short of the target by only three runs. Hilton Cartwright was their best performer with a knock of 42, while Jordan Cox and Tom Curran were also among runs. But in the end, they failed to get over the winning line.

The Fire, on the other hand, lost their opening game to the Brave. They put up quite a disappointing performance with the bat, collectively managing only 107 runs batting first. 40 of those 107 runs were scored by Ben Duckett alone, while five of their batsman were dismissed on single digit scores. Later, their bowlers were unable to defend the target as Brave wrapped up the chase in less than 70 balls.

Last season, Oval Invincibles won four of their eight matches, while Welsh Fire won three of their five matches to finish seventh. Both the teams didn’t make it to the knockouts last season and will be looking for a new story this season.
