Pakistan U19s vs Sri Lanka U19s

After their title hopes were blown up with quarter-final loss, Pakistan and Sri Lanka won their respective 5th place playoff semi-final bouts to reach here. The two teams will go head to head for the 5th place finish at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on Thursday.

Qasim Akram’s Pakistan U19s were undefeated in the group stage, winning three out of three games but they were handed a 119-run loss in the Super League quarter-final by Australia. After getting knocked out, Pakistan then went on to beat Bangladesh by six wickets in the 5th place playoff semi-final on January 31. Bowling first, they restricted Bangladesh to 175 with Awais Ali and Mehran Mumtaz taking three wickets each. Haseebullah Khan scored 79 runs in the second innings as Pakistan chased down the target in 46.3 overs.

Sri Lanka topped their group by winning all three matches against Australia, West Indies and Scotland. They faced Afghanistan in the Super League quarter-final, losing a close contest by just 4 runs. Sri Lanka then defeated South Africa in the 5th place playoff semi-final by 65 runs on January 30. Batting first, they posted 232/6 on the back of Dunith Wellalage’s 113. Wellalage has also scored 224 runs with the bat at an average of 45, including one hundred and a fifty. He was sublime in the last game, scoring 113 off 130 and is the best bet for captaincy at 11 credits.

Awais Ali has been very good for Pakistan in the U19 WC, being the second leading wicket-taker. The right arm medium pacer has claimed 14 wickets from five games at a 17.4, including one five-wicket haul.
