WI vs NZ, 1st T20I – MPL Fantasy Preview and Top Picks

Match: West Indies vs New Zealand, (WI vs NZ, 1st T20I)

Date: August 10, 2022 – 12:00 AM IST

Venue: Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica

After recently losing a series to India, West Indies will now host New Zealand for a limited-overs series. The T20I series against New Zealand will start on 10th of August, which will be followed by an ODI series which shall begin on August 17. All the T20Is will be played at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, and will offer both the teams a good time to prepare for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which is less than three months away.

Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee, who chose to not play the series against Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, are returning for the series against West Indies. Williamson, who has been enduring a lean patch over the last few months, will look to get some runs under his belt. New Zealand, who have won their last 11 white-ball games on a trot, will be looking for another series win over the hosts.

West Indies, meanwhile, have not been at their best in the recent past despite being one of the best teams in the game’s shortest format. They have named the same squad for the T20I series which they lost recently to India.

Ahead of the first T20I, let’s look at the head to head total of both points, pitch report, weather update and more.

Pitch Report and Weather Forecast for West Indies vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I

The pitch at Sabina Park is balanced for both batsmen and bowlers and the pacers are likely to dominate the powerplay overs. Only three T20 matches have been played at this venue so far, two of which were won by the teams bowling first. The average first and second innings total is 134 and 132, while the highest and lowest total is 194 for 1 and 96 for 9. The captain winning the toss is likely to opt to bowl first.

It is going to be partly cloudy in Kingston during the game, with some chance of rain. The temperature will fluctuate between 23-36° C.

Five players to watch out for in the WI vs NZ 1st T20I

Here we take a look at five key players you must pick in your MPL fantasy XI for WI vs NZ 1st T20I:

Nicholas Pooran – wicketkeeper batsman, West Indies

Nicholas Pooran has got good starts in his last few outings but has not been able to get that one big knock which he will be hunting for in this series. He is the only batsman in his team to have more than 1,000 runs in the T20I format. In 65 T20 internationals for the West Indies, Pooran has scored 1382 runs at a strike rate of almost 131. He also brings with him plenty of experience of playing in franchise cricket tournaments.

Alzarri Joseph – bowler, West Indies

The West Indies pace bowler is low on experience, but he was impressive in his debut series against India, and thus makes for a good pick for your fantasy cricket team. On debut against India, Alzarri Joseph took five wickets in four innings, including two for 29 in the last match. In 51 other T20s, the speedster has taken 53 wickets.

Trent Boult – bowler, New Zealand

The star left-arm Kiwi pacer will be looking to make the most of the seam friendly pitch at the Sabina Park. Boult has taken 62 wickets in 44 T20I matches at an average of 21.69 and an economy rate of 8.12 so far. He is one of the best in the business and indispensable to your fantasy cricket team.

Michael Bracewell – all-rounder, New Zealand

Michael Bracewell has been in fine form over the last couple of months. In the most recent series against Scotland, he scored an unbeaten 61 in the only innings he got to bat in. With the ball, he picked up six wickets in four games.

Devon Conway – batsman, New Zealand

Devon Conway is playing his first T20 international since the conclusion of IPL 2022, where he scored 252 runs in seven matches for CSK at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 145.66. Conway is our pick for the MPL fantasy team’s captaincy.
