The third and final game of the ODI series between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan will be played on June 9 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.

The visitors have already won the series by winning the first two games and will now be eyeing a whitewash by winning the third ODI. Despite already having lost the series, Zimbabwe will be desperate to win the final game with crucial points for the ICC World Cup Super League 2020-2023 up for grabs.

In the opening ODI, Afghanistan put up 276 runs on the board on the back of excellent knocks by Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi. Shah scored 94 while Shahidi hit a knock of 88. Down the order, Rashid Khan scored a blistering 39 off 17. Later in the game, Mohammad Nabi picked up four wickets to help Afghanistan successfully defend the total. Zimbabwe fell short of the target by 60 runs.

In the second game, Zimbabwe batted first and scored 228 in their 50 overs. Innocent Kaia and Ryan Burl scored half-centuries while Sikandar Raza and Craig Ervine also made important contributions. But an unbeaten 121 by Ibrahim Zadran and 87 from Rahmat Shah helped the visitors wrap up the game in the 44th over.

Team news – Zimbabwe were outplayed in both the first two ODIs and if they want to avoid a whitewash, the likes of Regis Chakabva, Craig Ervine and others will have to bring out their A game. Innocent Kaia’s form is one positive the hosts will take from this series. The opener, playing his first ODI series, has scores of 39 and 63 in two games.

Rahmat Shah – Batsman, Afghanistan

Rahmat Shah has been Afghanistan’s top contributor in the first two games. He scored 94 and 87 in the first two ODIs and will be looking to end the series with another good knock. He is also his side’s highest run-scorer in ODIs since 2021 with 576 runs in 11 innings at an average of 57.6. In all, he has a batting average of nearly 39 in the 50-over format.

Innocent Kaia – Batsman, Zimbabwe

MPL price – 8.5 credits

Playing his debut ODI series, Innocent Kaia has scored knocks of 39 and 63 in the first two ODIs. Despite being low on experience, the confidence he has shown in the first two games makes him a good pick for your MPL team.

Ibrahim Zadran – Batsman, Afghanistan

MPL price –  8 credits

Ibrahim Zadran has played only four ODIs so far, but going by how he has performed in these games he is a good pick for your MPL team. Zadran averages nearly 50 from four games and stole the limelight with an unbeaten 121 in the second ODI against Zimbabwe.
