Zimbabwe pulled off an incredible feat as they clinched the ODI series against Bangladesh with a match to spare. The hosts defeated Bangladesh in the second ODI by five wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. The third and final match will take place at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday, August 10.

Zimbabwe produced a scintillating batting performance to chase down 291 with five wickets and 15 balls to spare. Bangladesh posted 290/9 on the back of Mahmudullah’s 80 and Tamim Iqbal’s fifty. Sikandar Raza was excellent with the ball, picking 3 for 56 in 10 overs while Wessley Madhevere also bagged 2 for 40.

Chasing the target, the hosts were reduced to 49/4 before captain Regis Chakabva and Raza joined hands. Chakabva smashed a brilliant 102 in just 75 balls as they shared a 201-run stand for the fifth wicket. Raza continued his spectacular form with the bat this year, bringing up his second consecutive century. He smashed an unbeaten 117 to take the side over the finishing line.

Earlier in the series, Zimbabwe chased down 304 in the first ODI with five wickets and 10 balls to spare. Innocent Kaia scored 110 in the run-chase while Raza blasted unbeaten 135 off 109 balls to complete a memorable victory.

Harare Sports Club has produced some very good pitches for batting in recent times. The average first innings score at the venue in 2021 was 271 while the number shoots up to 292. Six out of the last eight ODIs played here have been won by the team batting second.

Sikandar Raza: All-rounder, Zimbabwe

Sikandar Raza is in the form of his life and he’s coming off two back to back centuries in this ODI series. The all-rounder scored 135* in the first game and followed it up with 117* while also picking four wickets in two games. Raza averages 78 in the fifty-over format this year, having scored two hundreds and two fifties.

Tamim Iqbal: Batter, Bangladesh

Tamim Iqbal has been pretty solid at the top for the visitors, scoring back to back fifties in this ODI leg. The veteran Bangladesh batter has a good record in the format, having scored over 8000 runs at an average of 37 with 14 centuries and 55 half centuries. Iqbal has 316 runs in the last six games with four fifties.

Mahmudullah: All-rounder, Bangladesh

The 36yr old Mahmudullah has been one of the main batters for Bangladesh. He was excellent in the second ODI, scoring an unbeaten 80 off 84 balls. His overall record reads 4729 runs at an average of 36 with three hundreds and 26 fifties. Mahmudullah is averaging 65 in ODIs this year with 260 runs in nine innings.

Regis Chakabva: Wicketkeeper, Zimbabwe

Regis Chakabva, who opened the innings in the first ODI, moved down the order in the second game and played a phenomenal knock. He smashed 102 off 75 balls after the team had found itself in a critical situation. His innings included 10 fours and two sixes. Chakabva has one hundred and four fifties in his ODI career.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz: All-rounder, Bangladesh

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was terrific on the tour of West Indies, where he claimed 7 wickets in three ODIs. The off-break bowler has managed to pick three wickets in this high-scoring series at an economy of 5.50. Overall, he has 74 wickets in the format from 63 games at 4.55 rpo.
