India’s tour of Zimbabwe is all set to kick off on August 18th, with the two teams going head to head in the first One-Day International. The match will take place at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday.
The series is part of the ICC CWC Super League but hardly relevant with India having an automatic berth and Zimbabwe out of contention for the direct qualification, having won only three out of 15 matches in the competition.
Zimbabwe are coming off a remarkable victory over Bangladesh, clinching the series by 2-1. Sikandar Raza scored two hundreds in the first two games as they chased down 304 and 291, respectively to take an unassailable lead.
India will be led by KL Rahul in the series, having passed the fitness test. They will be without several of their top players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya. Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Yuzvendra Chahal, who played against the West Indies, have also been rested.
India blanked West Indies by 3-0 in their last assignment away from home. The first two games went down the wire, with the visitors holding onto a 3-run victory in the first and chasing down 312 with two wickets remaining in the second. The third match was straightforward as they hammered the hosts by 119 runs on DLS method.

Harare Sports Club has been a good venue for batting in recent times. The average first innings score at the venue in 2021 was 271. In the recent series between Bangladesh and the hosts, the first innings scores read 303, 290 and 256. Expect a big first innings score if India bats first.

KL Rahul: Wicketkeeper Batter, India
KL Rahul has a pretty good record in the fifty-over format, having scored 1634 runs from 42 ODIs at an average of 47 while striking at 88. He has five hundreds and 10 fifties in the format. Rahul is even better in the middle order, where he averages 52 and strikes at 104.
Sikandar Raza: All-rounder, Zimbabwe
Sikandar Raza has had an incredible year across formats. The all-rounder has scored 472 runs in nine ODIs at an average of 67 and strike rate of 91, including back to back unbeaten centuries against Bangladesh. Raza has 68 wickets with his off-break bowling at an economy of 4.88.
Mohammed Siraj: Bowler, India
Mohammed Siraj has the potential to be an excellent bowler in the fifty-over format. He was superb in the last game against West Indies, snaring 2 for 14 in just three overs. Siraj has good List A numbers, with 92 wickets 53 matches at a strike rate of 27, including five instances of 4+ wickets.
Axar Patel: All-rounder, India
The left arm orthodox spin all-rounder has grabbed his opportunities whenever called upon. Axar Patel has done well in ODIs, picking 47 wickets from 41 matches and scoring at 18 average, 108 strike rate. He was superb against the Windies, bagging two wickets and scoring 85 runs in two innings.
