The most important thing required to play a game of poker online or offline is playing cards (poker cards). The commonly used version of poker cards is the standard 52-card deck with face and number cards. The face cards of each suite are among the best cards. There are four different suits in poker.

The most typical pack of playing cards that are used to date is the French-suited playing cards. In most English-speaking countries, it is the only traditional pack used for playing cards. In some countries, this pack is used with other suited packs like German, Italian, Spanish or Swiss versions. The next commonly used pattern is the Belgian Genoese pattern designed in France. These patterns are used in Spain, Italy, the Ottoman Empire, the Balkans, and a significant part of North Africa and the Middle East.

Playing cards have a wide variety of styles, while some of them are custom produced for casinos and magicians. Some are created as souvenirs, while some are collected as a hobby or for monetary purposes.

Types of Poker Cards

There are four types of poker cards:

Clubs

Diamonds

Hearts

Spade

All the above suits of playing cards have the same value. A standard 52-card deck has 13 ranks in each of the four suits, ranking high to low (A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2). In terms of poker card order, the Deuce(2- card) is the smallest, and Ace (A) is the highest. Ace is the most potent card amongst all and can be considered as the highest or the lowest rank, depending on the sequence. Each poker card type has numbers ranging from 2 to 10; these are known as the number cards, and three Face Cards known as Kings, Queens, and Jacks which represent K, Q, and J, respectively.

Clubs in Poker

The club is one of the four suits in poker cards. The club is one of the two black coloured cards in the deck, represented by a three-leafed clover symbol. There are 13 Clubs, which consist of 9 numbered cards and 4 face cards.

Diamonds in Poker

An easily recognizable pattern in card games, Diamonds are one of two red suits in poker cards. In a standard deck, there are 13 diamond cards.

Hearts in Poker

Like other poker playing cards, hearts also consist of 13 cards- 9 are numbered and 4 faced cards. The cards are indicated with heart-shaped symbols on the cards.

Spade in Poker

According to poker and other card games, spades are usually the best cards you can get. Since there is no particular hierarchy with poker cards, the spades are equally important as the rest of them. There are 13 spades in the standard deck, and they are cards with a leaf on them.

Poker Cards Order

In a Poker game, the order of cards is very important. The playing cards heirarchy will be a determining factor if a player wins a hand. When it comes to poker cards order, Ace has the highest, and 2 has the lowest value. Cards from the suits will not necessarily be the best poker cards but the hands that are dealt. Generally, the ace of hearts has the same value as that of diamonds. It is not necessary that the highest-value card always wins. There are different combinations of poker hands that a player can get.

Poker Card Rules

Similar to any card game, poker cards also work according to predefined poker rules. Some poker games use more than 2 decks. The format of the game also differs for different variations of poker. As aforementioned, the poker hierarchy is from Ace, King, Queen, 10,9,8, and so on. The Ace card has the highest value, while 2 has the lowest value. However, some poker variations use Ace as the lowest card. The one who has the highest poker hand wins the match. Some poker variations have Jokers as wild cards then the order changes accordingly.

Terminology

There are some terms which are there for playing cards that are relevant to the standard 52-card deck:

Face card or court card – a jack, queen, or king.

Honour card - a card that attracts a special bonus or payment for being held or captured in play. In bridge, honours are the aces, the court cards, and tens (A, K, Q, J, 10); in whist and related games, the aces and courts (A, K, Q, J).

Wild card – the card that the owner may designate to represent any other card.

Numerals or pip cards are cards numbered from 2 to 10.

"1" cards are usually known as aces.

"2" cards are also known as deuces.

"3" cards are also known as treys.

Poker Hand Rankings

1. Royal flush

Royal Flush sits at the top of the poker card hand rankings. It is the best hand possible and features five consecutive cards of the same suit in order from 10 through Ace.

2. Straight flush

Straight Flush

Any five cards that are of a sequential value in the same suit, which isn't a royal flush, becomes a straight flush. You can beat it only with a royal flush or another straight flush that includes cards of a higher rank.

3. Four-of-a-kind

Four of a kind

It is a poker hand that has the same card in all four suits. The highest card completes the five-card among the deck on the table or in your hand.

4. Full house

Full House

A full house is a hand that has the same value card in three different suits (three of a kind) and a different pair of playing cards of the same rank in two different suits. When more than one player has a full house, the winning hand is the one that has the highest value in the poker hand.

5. Flush

Flush

It is a poker hand with five cards of the same suit, regardless of the order. When two players have similar sets, the one with the highest value card is the winning poker hand.

6. Straight

Straight

Five cards that are numbered in a sequential value are made up of more than one suit. An ace usually ranks higher than a king or lower than a 2. However, the rank of Ace will not change on the same hand.

7. Three-of-a-kind

Three of a kind

A poker hand has three cards of the same rank in three different suits. If you have those two highest available cards besides three of a kind, complete the hand.

8. Two pair

Two Pair

Two different sets of two cards have a matching rank. The highest-ranked remaining card completes the hand.

9. Pair

Pair

A pair of cards that are of the same rank but have different suits. The rest of the hand is formed from the three highest-ranked cards.

10. High Card

High Card

This is the lowest-ranked poker hand. The highest card there becomes the best hand.
