MPL Opinio New Points System with DLS: EXPLAINED

MPL Opinio has launched a new “Fantasy points” system format. The expert-opinion-based game of skill platform, which has questions on ongoing cricket matches for users to trade, will now decide its winner based on fantasy points instead of runs and wickets, which were the earlier parameters.

However, while the points system has been modified, the points format remains the same, like the trading and price matching format.

Below is the new fantasy points system of Opinio.

Under MPL Opinio’s new fantasy points system, teams will get a free bonus of 50 points while starting a game. Following that, every run scored by the team will be rewarded with a point each.

In terms of other points, each boundary will get a +1 point and each six will be rewarded with a +2 points. Each half-century and century scored by a player will be rewarded with five points each.

A team will receive five points each for tallying 200 or more runs and 250 or more runs. If a team scores 300 or more runs, then a further bonus of fifteen points will be awarded.

However, it’s not all addition. What makes MPL Opinio fun is the points deduction as well. Every time a batsman gets out, he will get a deduction of -10. Similarly, your team will get a -10 every time a bowler of the opponent team gets a five-wicket haul and -5 if he bowls a maiden over.

How will MPL Opinio fantasy points system gets modified if the DLS method is used?

Opnio’s fantasy points system is designed to get modified if and when rain affects a game of cricket, and the overs and targets get revised owing to the DLS method. Below are the three scenarios and how MPL Opinio’s calculation changes based on the same.

Scenario 1: If the rain affects the game before it starts and both the teams play the same number of overs

In case, for example, of an India vs Australia T20I match, where the rain delays the start of the game, and each team gets 15 overs each, the points allocation will remain the same but for 15 overs as both the teams get the same number of balls to score total and chase target.

Scenario 2: When the team batting first plays their full quota of overs before the rain comes in, and the team batting second gets their target revised and overs reduced based on DLS.

Suppose the Indian cricket team has batted 20 overs, put up 180 runs, and totalled 220 fantasy points. This is followed by rain, and as per the DLS method, Australia gets a revised target of 150 runs in 15 overs.

How fantasy points will be calculated then

The equation used will be : (Updated Target -1)*Fantasy Points (Exc Team bonus) (India)/Actual score(India) + Team Bonus +1

In this scenario, India’s Opinio fantasy point tally is 220 (170 points + 50 bonus points that every team starts a match with), and as per the above calculation, Australia’s fantasy points target will be 191.7222222.

Hence, the calculation will go like this : ((150-1) * 170 / 180 + 50 +1).

Scenario 3: When the team batting first gets their inning shortened by rain, and their total runs change into a revised target for the team batting second owing to the DLS method.

Suppose the Indian cricket team has batted 15 overs and reached 120 runs before rain interrupted play. They ended with a total of 150 points, and they couldn’t bat further. Before Australia comes to bat, their target is revised based on the DLS method, and they have to score 140 runs in 15 overs.

How fantasy points will be calculated

The equation used will be : (Updated Target -1)*Fantasy Points (Exc Team bonus) (India)/Actual score(India) + Team Bonus +1

In this scenario, India’s Opinio fantasy point total will be deducted to 100 (150 points – 50 bonus points that every team starts a match with), and as per the above calculation, Australia’s fantasy points target will be 166.8333333.

Hence, the calculation will go like this : ((140-1) * 100 / 120 + 50 +1).
