The Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) 2023 started on June 15 with Puneri Bappa taking on Kolhapur Tusker in the opening game. A number of star players are participating in the event, including Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rahul Tripathi. The final of the MPL will be played on June 29, 2023.
The Maharashtra Premier League was initially established by the state board in 2009 but was paused after the initial three seasons. The tournament is now being revived with six teams in action.
During this edition, there will be a total of six franchises representing the six cities of the state. These six teams were purchased for INR 57.8 crores for a three-year period. The selected cities include Pune, Sambhajinagar, Nashik, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Ratnagiri. All games will be played at the MCA International Stadium, Gahunje in Pune.
Each side had to pick at least 16 players in the auction, which was held on June 6. There were a total of 285 players available for bidding in the auction, with each franchise allocated a budget of INR 20 lakh for the event. The players were categorized into three groups, each with different base prices: INR 60,000, INR 40,000, and INR 30,000.

The winners of the Maharashtra Premier League will get prize money of INR 50,00,000, while the Maharastra Cricket Association (MCA) will give the runners-up prize money of INR 25,00,000.
