Road Ahead for BVB
Borussia Dortmund have emerged as the new destination for budding footballers. The club has a world class academy in place which helps in nurturing and grooming young footballers which have seen a number of players with the likes of Marco Reus, Nuri Sahin and Mario Gotze coming through the ranks of the club.
The contribution of Jurgen Klopp to build BVB’s stature is immense. The German gaffer took the club to a new height as the Black and Yellows managed to keep pace with Bayern Munich who have had an unchallenged territory.
Under Klopp’s guidance, Dortmund won the Bundesliga two times and also established a separate identity for the club. Michael Zorc who has the record of appearing in most matches for the club is currently the director of football for the club.
As a player, Zorc won the most number of trophies for the club as he had two Bundesliga titles, one Champions League, one DFB-Pokal and three super cups in his kitty. He has also built an entire ecosystem that is sustainable on its own.
He is responsible for the transfers, football activities and has been in the charge of the club since 1998. Zorc will hang up his boots after the 2022-23 season and former Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl will replace him. It will be a massive challenge for Kehl to replicate Zorc’s values at the club and it remains to be seen how he manages to build Dortmund after Zorc’s departure.
