The second-highest team score in the IPL also belongs to RCB, who smashed 248/3 against Gujarat Lions in 2016.

He scorched his way to 175*, which to date remains the highest individual score in IPL and T20 cricket. Gayle hit 13 fours and 17 mammoth sixes in what is the fastest century in IPL while AB de Villiers smoked 31 off just 8 balls to help RCB to 263/5, the highest team score in IPL history. This is also the RCB highest score in IPL.
Pune, in their reply, could not even close and were restricted to 133/9 in their 20 overs. It came as no surprise that Gayle was named Player of the Match for his record. RCB’s 263/5 is comfortably the highest score in IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants – 257/5 vs Punjab Kings
When Lucknow Super Giants had managed a fast start against Punjab Kings at the Mohali Stadium on April 28, 2023, little did they know that they could keep the run rate steady for the full 20 overs.
Kyle Mayers, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran all contributed with quickfire 50s and 40s to put up a massive total of 257/5, batting in the first innings. Punjab were all-out for 201 runs with Naveen-ul-Haq and Yash Thakur taking seven wickets between them.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 248/3 vs Gujarat Lions
Royal Challengers Bangalore have over the years had some of the fiercest batsmen in world cricket in their repertoire. It comes as no surprise that the second highest team score in IPL also belongs to the Bengaluru-based franchise. This one came against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016. Gayle fell early on this occasion but Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers decided to treat the Bengaluru crowd. The duo combined for a record-breaking 229-run stand for the second wicket as RCB thumped their way to 248/3 in 20 overs.
While Kohli finished on 109 off 55 balls, his innings laced with five fours and eight sixes, de Villiers tonked 129* off 55 balls. The target proved to be too steep for Gujarat who were restricted to 104 in 18.4 overs. De Villiers was named Player of the Match for his stellar show.

Chennai Super Kings – 246/5 vs Rajasthan Royals
Chennai Super Kings, the three-time IPL champions are also not too far behind when it comes to the highest score in the cash-rich league. Back in IPL 2010, Chennai Super Kings, riding on a breathtaking 127 from M Vijay amassed a colossal 246/5 against Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This remains the third highest score in IPL.
However, unlike other games on this list, this one went down to the wire. Naman Ojha came out all guns blazing in the chase scorching his way to a 55-ball 94 alongside Shane Watson’s 25-ball 60. Rajasthan Royals were in the game all through but ran out of steam in the end as they went down by 22 runs. This game remains one of the most high-scoring encounters in IPL history.
Kolkata Knight Riders – 245/6 vs Punjab Kings
Kings XI Punjab or Punjab Kings do not have the best of bowling attacks. It is imperative that over the years they have gone for runs aplenty. In May 2018, Punjab were up against the might of Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunil Narine. Batting first, the men in purple led by Narine’s 36-ball 75 smashed 245/6 in their 20 overs. The target was always going to be colossal to chase down and while Punjab did get close they could only manage 214/8. The wrath of Narine proved too much for Punjab to handle on the day.
