Call Break Gameplay

As a beginner, the call break game may seem complicated; however, it gets effortless after a game or two. Call Break is a multiplayer game played between four players with a 52-card deck. Each game consists of five rounds in a counter-clockwise direction. The dealer distributes 13 cards to each player, and the player at the right of the dealer starts with placing a bid. Each player has to place a bid or a call corresponding to the number of tricks the player will win in the game. The players must call a minimum of 2 hands and a maximum of 12 hands per player.

Based on the hands called, the player has to make the exact number of hands or more to avoid losing the game. For instance, if a player calls 4 tricks at the beginning of the game, the player must make 4 or more tricks to win equivalent points. If the player is unable to win 4 or more tricks, the player loses 4 points. More on the scoring is explained at a later stage.

Call Break Rules

To be a pro at the game, make sure you know all the rules of the game. Here are the essential rules for playing the call break game online:

  • All Spades cards are the default trump cards in the game that a player can use when he/she doesn’t have a card from the suit being played.
  • If a player doesn’t get a trump card after the dealer distributes the cards, the cards have to be shuffled and redistributed to all the players.
  • If a player plays a trump card at the beginning of any round, the other players have to play a trump card. However, if a player runs out of trump cards, that player can play any card.
  • A player is not obligated to play a lead card from the same suit. Also, if a player doesn’t have a lead card from the same suit but has a trump card, the player is not obligated to play the trump card.
  • Each trick is won by the player with the highest trump or highest card (if no trumps are used) in that round.
  • The cards are ranked in order of power from high to low as A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
  • The player with the highest points at the end of 5 rounds wins the game.

Here are 3 ways to master the call break game skills.

Call Break Game Scoring System

As discussed earlier, each call break game consists of 5 rounds. Every player has to make calls in every round based on the cards received and make the same number or more hands in that round. At the end of the round, each player’s points are calculated based on the number of tricks by each player. The winning players earn points equal to the number of calls made at the beginning of the game, while the losing player loses points equal to the number of calls made.

For instance, a player bids 3 tricks at the beginning of the game, the player should win 3 or more tricks to earn at least 3 points. Here’s how the points will be allocated to the player in the following situations:

  • If the player wins 3 tricks, the player will get 3 points.
  • If the player wins 4 tricks, the player will get 3.1 points. This is because the points increase by 0.1 per extra trick won. Therefore, if the player wins 5 tricks, the points will increase to 3.2
  • If the player wins 2 tricks or less, the player’s score will be reduced by -3 points. The points deducted are equal to the number of tricks the player bids at the beginning of the game.

If a player makes 8 or more calls in a round, that player will win 13 points if he/she manages to win 8 or more tricks. However, if the player is unable to win 8 or more tricks, the player will lose 8 points.

A round ends when the cards in each player’s hands are exhausted. At the end of every round, the score is evaluated for each player based on the tricks they won. After five rounds, the player with the highest score wins the game.

Conclusion

The call break scoring system is relatively straightforward and uncomplicated. It all comes down to the predicting skills you use while making a call at the beginning of the game. If you can win the same number of tricks that you bid, your points will increase in every round. However, if you make a wrong prediction and cannot win the same number of tricks, the negative points will break your game. With these rules and points evaluation in mind, try a hand at the online call break game on MPL and have fun crushing your opponent to win real cash prizes.
