Bowling at a speed of around 145 kmph and maintaining it throughout the over makes this Indian fast bowler stand out. He is Avesh Khan, whose ability to maintain speed as well as add variations to his spell like slower balls and yorkers in the death overs has made a name for himself in the cricket world.
Avesh is often characterised as a fierce competitor on the field. His aggressive bowling style and never-back-down attitude make him a tough opponent. His fastest delivery has been measured at 149 kmph.
Standing tall at 6 feet 2 inches, Avesh's journey from the local cricket ground to international cricket is a testament to his dedication and passion for the game.
He made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh (MP) against Railways in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season. Later, he was named in India's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
Avesh's journey to the senior level started when he was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season, he topped the wicket-taking charts for MP with 35 wickets at an economy of 16.37. Such performances secured him a spot in the India A team in early 2019 and for the Duleep Trophy later in the year.
Avesh truly made his mark in the 2018 edition of IPL while playing for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). However, the 2021 IPL season was a breakthrough for him as he took 24 wickets in 16 matches, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. His performances that season also contributed to DC reaching the playoffs.
His continued performances have caught the attention of IPL franchises and during the auction in the year 2022, he was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a staggering Rs 10 crore. This made him the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL at that time, proving his growing reputation as a reliable fast bowler.
In November 2023, Avesh was traded to the Rajasthan Royals (RR), where he played an essential role in their bowling lineup. The right-arm pacer, in the mega auction for the IPL 2025 season, was once again bought by LSG for Rs 9.75 crore.
During the 2021 IPL season, Avesh took the wicket of Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) Mahendra Singh Dhoni from CSK without him scoring any runs. In an interview following the match, he expressed that it had been his dream to dismiss Dhoni. He also mentioned his desire to play under Dhoni’s leadership for CSK in the future.
The best bowling figures for Avesh came in the 2022 IPL season in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he recorded figures of 4/24.
Avesh, who established himself as one of the amazing fast-bowling talents in India, got his international debut very soon due to his impressive performances in domestic cricket and IPL.
His international debut came in February 2022 during a T20 International match against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. He made an immediate impact, showcasing his ability to bowl at speeds surpassing 140 kmph.
Later that year, on July 24, he made his debut in One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies in Port of Spain. The pacer's standout performance came in December 2023 in a match against South Africa, where he recorded figures of 4/27, highlighting his potential to excel at the highest level.
In ICC tournaments like the World Cup, where every team in the cricket world decides to go with experienced players to give their best and win the trophy, Avesh being the young talent, earned a place in India’s squad and was named as reserve player for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Avesh's journey from a small-town boy to playing for the national cricket team is a testament to his hard work, determination, and passion for the sport.
Beyond the ground, Avesh Khan’s life revolves around his family and fitness. Despite being busy honing his cricketing skills, he likes to spend quality time with his loved ones. He is also an avid fitness enthusiast and often shares glimpses of his workout sessions on social media, inspiring young talent to focus on their physical well-being.
On his social platform, he can also be seen celebrating moments with family, travel escapades, and interactions with teammates.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, Aavesh and his family actively participated in community service and distributed food to migrant labourers passing through their hometown Indore. This gesture highlighted his commitment to giving back to society.
Avesh has also collaborated with some of the brands such as the Rajasthani OTT platform Stage and the Indian fantasy sports platform Blitzpools.
