Rachin Ravindra is among many cricketers around the world who don't live in India, but have their roots in the cricket-crazy nation. Born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1999 to Indian parents, Rachin is a left-handed batting all-rounder who, over the last couple of years, has established himself as one of the most talented batsmen around the world.
Rachin started playing the sport from the age of five, and would also travel to Bengaluru every year to play club cricket. Rachin's impressive junior career, including impressive performances at the Under-19 World Cups and recognition as a rising star by the ICC, paved the way for his debut with Wellington in 2018. He was part of the New Zealand squad for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2016, and, at 16 years old, was the youngest player in the squad. His impressive performances in the 2018 U19 World Cup saw him being named among the rising stars of the tournament by the ICC. Rachin consequently made his List A debut for New Zealand A against Pakistan A in the same year.
His international career began in 2021, debuting in T20Is against Bangladesh and Tests against India, followed by his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2023.
The 2023 Cricket World Cup proved to be a breakout moment for the young cricketer. Among several records, he scored three centuries in the tournament. His remarkable performances earned him the 2023 ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year award and led to his signing with the Chennai Super Kings for the Indian Premier League in 2024.
He debuted for CSK against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In this match, Rachin made an immediate impact by scoring 37 runs off just 15 balls, and followed this with a rapid 46 off 20 balls against the Gujarat Titans in the subsequent game. Throughout the season, Rachin played 10 matches, amassing 222 runs at an average of 22.20 and a strike rate of 160.87. Ahead of the 2025 season, CSK retained Rachin for Rs 4 crore.
Beyond cricket
As of 2024, Rachin Ravindra had a net worth of about Rs 16 crore. His major sources of income are his national contract with the New Zealand Cricket Board and contract with CSK in the IPL.
