Romario Shepherd, born on 26 November 1994 in Guyana, has emerged as a dependable all-rounder for the West Indies with his right-arm pace and useful contributions with the bat. Shepherd began his domestic career with Guyana, making his List A debut in the 2015–16 Regional Super50 in January 2016. He made his first-class debut for Guyana in March 2017 during the Regional Four Day Competition and went on to showcase his talents in T20 cricket with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, debuting in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on 5 September 2018.
His performances at the domestic level earned him an international call-up in October 2019, and he made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the West Indies against Afghanistan on 6 November 2019. He transitioned into the T20I setup shortly after, debuting against Ireland on 18 January 2020. Over the years, Shepherd has established himself as a reliable limited-overs player and has represented various T20 franchises globally, including Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (2022), Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2022 IPL, and Chattogram Challengers in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League. Ahead of IPL 2025, he was signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru at his base price of ₹1.5 crore, a testament to his growing reputation. In November 2023, Shepherd was named in the West Indies ODI squad for the England series, and in May 2024, he was included in the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, highlighting his continued value to the national setup.
Romario Shepherd has been married to Tia Terencia Joseph, a well-known model and television presenter, since 2019. The couple shares a strong bond and are proud parents to two sons, Romauldo Shepherd and Romarie Shepherd. Romario hails from a close-knit family in Guyana, with his brother Kenny Shepherd also being an important part of his life. He completed his early education at Baracara Primary School in Guyana.
Interestingly, Romario was named after the legendary Brazilian footballer Romário, reflecting his family's admiration for sports. His cricketing idol is former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, and he also looks up to cricketing greats like Rahul Dravid, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, and Jacques Kallis. Known for his love of travelling, Romario enjoys exploring new places during his time off the field. With a net worth of approximately $5 million, he has found success both professionally and personally, embodying the journey of a modern-day international cricketer.
