The young achiever in the Indian Cricket Team, Shreyas Iyer, is a stroke player who possesses the ability to pick the length of the ball quickly. His ability to time his strokes against quality pace bowlers off the front and back foot and pull off cover drives and pulls with ease caught the eye of the former Indian cricketer, Pravin Amre. Currently, Iyer is one of the biggest power hitters, who has also been compared by cricket fanatics to the legendary batsman Virender Sehwag. Virender Sehwag describes Shreyas Iyer as a fearless player with excellent hand-eye coordination.
The attacking top-order batsman was a part of the Indian U-19 team for the 2014 World Cup. His back-to-back fifties led India to finish fifth in the tournament. Iyer’s outstanding performance led him to play for the Trent Bridge Cricket team, where he proved his worth again. Iyer made his First-Class debut in the 2014-15 Ranji Trophy season and amassed a high number of runs that caught the attention of many.
In 2015, Delhi Daredevils picked him as an uncapped player for a whopping INR 2.6 crore. In the 2018 Indian T20 domestic league, Iyer was made the permanent captain of Delhi Daredevils, replacing Gautam Gambhir.
The dominating stroke player has had a few doubtful innings in the 2017/18 Ranji Trophy, owing to his technique. However, the young cricketer has enough time to work on his shortcomings and flaws.
