Virat Kohli was included in the World Cup 2011 team and became the first Indian batsman to hit a century in World Cup debut. Kohli played his first Test at Kingston in 2011 against the West Indian cricket team. He didn’t perform well and as a result, he was dropped from the team. However, he was recalled in the same year.

In 2011 the cricketing wizard made his presence felt in the Indian test squad when playing against the Aussies. The team lost the series but Kohli was India’s top scorer. In 2012, Asia Cup, Virat was named as the team’s vice-captain and scored 183 against Pakistan while chasing and broke Brian Lara’s record of the highest individual score of 156. Also, he made 100 runs in just 52 deliveries against the Australian cricket team in 2013. That was the fastest century by an Indian batsman in ODI format.

The year 2014 witnessed Kohli being made the team India skipper for the test format and scored 692 runs in four test matches that made him the highest Indian run-getter for Australian test series. In 2015, Virat saw a slump in his form but very soon he regained his form and earned the recognition of being the first batsman in the world to score 1,000 runs in T20. His remarkable innings helped the Indian squad reach the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2016.
