Playing for Durham in County Cricket, Bedingham quickly became a team hero. In 2021, he scored an incredible 257 runs in a single innings, making headlines. County Cricket has truly given Bedingham recognition and fans who admire his aggressive style. Cricket started for David Bedingham in South Africa. Growing up there, he developed his skills playing for school and local club teams. His talent stood out early when he scored his first century as a teenager. Coaches spotted his special talent immediately and always encouraged him to dream bigger.
Bedingham made his first-class debut for Northerns in the 2012–13 CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition on 14 March 2013.
He was the leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge tournament for Boland, with 283 runs in seven matches. He was also the leading run-scorer in the 2017–18 Sunfoil 3-Day Cup for Boland, with 790 runs in eight matches.
In June 2018, he was named in the squad for the Cape Cobras team for the 2018–19 season. In September 2018, he was named in Boland's squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup. In September 2019, he was named in the squad for the Cape Town Blitz team for the 2019 Mzansi Super League tournament.
In September 2019, he was named in Western Province's squad for the 2019–20 CSA Provincial T20 Cup. In April 2021, he was named in Western Province's squad, ahead of the 2021–22 cricket season in South Africa. Later the same month, Bedingham scored his maiden double century in first-class cricket, with 257 runs for Durham in the 2021 season.
Cricket hasn't always been easy for Bedingham, adjusting to English pitches and weather was tough. At first, he found hitting the ball in England tricky and experienced low-scoring matches. But he didn't give up.
Instead, he took extra batting practice and followed advice from senior players. Soon, hard work paid off, proving dedication really matters!
Recently, Bedingham made cricket fans proud as a Test Debutant for South Africa. He made his Test debut for South Africa against India at Centurion on December 26-28, 2023. He also played in the Test match against Pakistan at Cape Town from January 3-6, 2025.
He’s already played crucial innings in his early Tests and, with a strong domestic career behind him, looks ready to become a key figure in South Africa’s middle order.
