A right-arm leg-break bowler, Ravi Bishnoi first gained attention in 2020 when he emerged as the highest wicket-taker at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In India's match against Japan, Bishnoi took four wickets without giving away a run and finished with figures of 4/5 in eight overs.
Born and raised in the village of Birami near Jodhpur, Bishnoi didn't have much cricket training facilities to his avail. With the help of his friends and coaches, Pradyot Singh Rathore and Shahrukh Pathan, Bishnoi built the Spartans Cricket Academy. Due to financial struggles, they did all the construction work themselves so he could train there. His father, a school headmaster, disapproved of the idea. But his mother, a cricket fan, watched matches with Bishnoi and supported him.
Bishnoi rose through the ranks of club cricket and eventually broke into the Rajasthan U19 squad. He made his T20 debut for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in February 2019, while his List A debut came in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in September 2019. In October 2019, Bishnoi was named in India A's squad for the Deodhar Trophy.
However, it was the Indian Premier League that truly brought him into the limelight. In December 2019, Bishnoi was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the 2020 IPL auction for Rs 2 crore - this was even before he travelled to South Africa for the U19 World Cup. Bishnoi made his IPL debut in September 2020 against Delhi Capitals, taking Rishabh Pant as his first wicket and finishing with 1/22 in four overs. He ended the season with 12 wickets. In February 2022, he was drafted by the new franchise Lucknow Super Giants for the 2022 IPL. He picked up 13 wickets in 2022, 16 in 2023 and 12 in 2024. The franchise retained him for a massive Rs 11 crore ahead of the auction for IPL 2025.
In January 2022, Bishnoi was named in India's ODI and T20I squads for the home series against West Indies. He made his T20I debut in February 2022, taking 2/17 and winning the Player of the Match award.
In October 2022, he was included in India's ODI squad for the series against South Africa. He made his ODI debut that month.
In November 2023, he was picked for India's five-match T20 series against Australia. He finished as the highest wicket-taker with nine wickets at an average of 18.22. A leg spinner who bowls a lot of googlies, Bishnoi is tailor-made for T20 cricket, a format in which he is thriving.
Beyond cricket
According to publicly available data, Ravi Bishnoi has a net worth of about Rs 17 crore. The leg-spinner received his maiden BCCI contract in 2024 and was named in Grade C list, which carries an annual remuneration of Rs 1 crore. But it's the IPL where he's truly made a huge amount of money. Bishnoi was paid a whopping Rs 2 crore by the Punjab Kings in IPL 2020. He received the same amount for 2021 from Punjab, and Rs 4 crore each in 2022 and 2023 from Lucknow Super Giants. He received Rs 4 crore from LSG in 2024 as well, before being retained for a whopping Rs 11 crore for the 2025 season.
