Swapnil Singh Biography and Career

Swapnil Singh is an experienced Indian cricketer known for his crafty left-arm orthodox spin and useful contributions with the bat. Born on January 22, 1991, in India, he currently represents Uttarakhand in domestic cricket and plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

A cricketing prodigy, Swapnil made his first-class debut for Baroda in 2006 at just 14 years old. His early promise earned him a place in the Mumbai Indians squad during the inaugural IPL season in 2008. That same year, he was also a member of India’s victorious Under-19 World Cup squad led by Virat Kohli.

Primarily a bowler, Swapnil has proven to be a reliable all-rounder over the years. He grabbed headlines in the 2014–15 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with an exceptional spell of 6 wickets for 19 runs in four overs against Saurashtra—one of the best figures in the tournament's history. While his bowling has often been the focal point, his batting came to the fore in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy, where he emerged as Baroda's leading run-scorer, amassing 565 runs in just six matches.

In July 2018, Swapnil was selected in the India Blue squad for the 2018–19 Duleep Trophy, further underlining his consistency in the domestic circuit. His IPL journey saw him being bought by Kings XI Punjab in 2016 for INR 10 lakhs, where he made his debut under Glenn Maxwell's leadership and took the prized wicket of MS Dhoni as his maiden IPL scalp.

He continued to be part of various IPL setups, including Lucknow Super Giants in 2023. In IPL 2024, he featured in six league matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, delivering economical spells that played a crucial role in RCB’s six-match winning streak to clinch a playoff berth.

Beyond Cricket

Off the field, Swapnil Singh leads a grounded and multifaceted life. Born on January 12, 1991 (a Tuesday) in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, he spent his formative years in Vadodara, Gujarat, where he attended New Era Senior Secondary School. He later pursued higher education at Guru Nanak Khalsa College of Arts, completing his graduation.

One of his cherished hobbies is playing the guitar, offering him a soothing escape. Family plays a central role in Swapnil’s life. He is the son of Rajeshwari Singh and has two siblings, Jyotsnil Singh (brother) and Ayushi Singh (sister). Despite his busy cricketing schedule, he remains close to his roots and values the support of his family.

Currently unmarried, Swapnil has managed to build a stable life off the pitch as well. As of February 2025, his estimated net worth stands at INR 1 crore, a reflection of his long-standing career in domestic cricket and contributions in the Indian Premier League.
