Will Jacks Biography and Career

Will Jacks is an English all-rounder known for his powerful batting and excellent off-spin bowling, who mainly plays as a top-order batter for the England team. Born on November 21, 1998, in Chertsey, Surrey, Jacks is a versatile player who has represented England in all three formats of the game. 

Jacks' cricketing journey began at the Under-9 level with Surrey, progressing through every age group to join the England Under-19 team. Initially, he was seen as a spin-bowling all-rounder, but his batting skills soon took centre stage. His Under-19 century against India in 2017 established him as a talent to watch, although his performances in the 2018 Under-19 World Cup were inconsistent.

Since making his senior debut for Surrey in 2018, Jacks has evolved from a promising young talent to an experienced all-rounder. Under the guidance of Surrey coach Gareth Batty, his bowling, which was initially underutilised, has become a vital asset. Not just that, Jacks also holds a record for hitting the fastest century. In a pre-season T10 match against Lancashire, Jacks scored a century in just 25 balls, making it the fastest century recorded in a match between two professional teams on a real cricket field. His innings also featured six sixes in a single over.

Such record-breaking performances of Will Jacks opened doors for him to play for the England team. Jacks’ international journey started with a Test debut against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on December 01, 2022, where he took a stunning six-wicket haul, becoming the first English spinner to achieve the feat on debut since 2003.

His ODI debut came on March 01, 2023, against Bangladesh in Mirpur, and his T20I debut came against Pakistan in September 2022. Jacks' best figures in T20I came against Ireland in 2023 when he hit 94 runs off 88 balls.

Jacks' IPL journey started in December 2022 when he was bought by RCB for Rs 3.2 crore ahead of the 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he couldn't play that season due to an injury he sustained while playing for England.

A standout moment in his career came was he hit his maiden century (100* off 41 balls) for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2024 season of the IPL, the 5th-fastest century in IPL history at that time. His innings included five fours and ten sixes. He also earned praise from Virat Kohli for his performance, who called it “phenomenal” in a post-match interview. 

The 2024 season turned out to be Jacks' finest year as he scored centuries in the SA20, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and IPL, cementing his reputation as a T20 powerhouse. In the IPL 2025 auction, Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs 5.25 crore, reflecting his rising stock. Jacks has also been a key player for the Oval Invincibles, contributing to their 2023 Hundred title.
