The poker hand rankings in order of highest to lowest are as follows:
A Royal Flush is the highest card ranking card. It consists five cards of the same suit, in sequential order. (These sequence being 10 through Ace). If one or more players get a royal flush, the pot is split equally.
Straight Flush is has five cards of the suit, in sequential order. If two or more players hold a straight flush then the highest sequence wins. For example, a King high straight flush is ranked higher than a Queen high Straight Flush. The only difference between a Straight and a Royal Flush is the presence of Ace.
This hand has four cards of the same rank/value. If two or more poker players share the same set of cards, then the highest value wins. If two or more players have the same four of a kind, then the fifth card decides the winner.
A full house has three cards of the same rank, and a pair. The value of three matching cards determines the strength of a full house. If players share three cards, then the value of the cards is determined by the strength of the pair.
Flush card sequence occurs when there is a same suit in any order. If two or more players have a flush then the player with the highest ranked card wins. If the players have the same high card then the value is determined by the value of the next cards like 2nd, then 3rd, then 4th then so on. The player with the higher ranking wins the pot.
This hand has five cards in sequence, not necessarily of the same suit. In the event of a tie, the best card is determined by the highest ranking card. A straight hand consisting of K, Q, J,10,9,8 will beat Q,J,10,9,8,7. Another thing to point out is that Ace can be used as the low card for a straight of A,2,3,4,5.
It has three cards of the same rank, and two completely unrelated cards.
A two pair has two cards of the same rank, plus an additional card. When there is a tie, the highest pair wins. If the highest pair is also the same, then the next pair bags the pot.
One pair simply has two cards of the same rank, and three additional cards. The value of the pair determines the winner when there is a tie. If players have the same pair, then the best hand is determined by the value of the highest additional card.
When a hand doesn't rank amongst any of the category, then it is a high card. It is judged on the value of the highest-ranked card among the five. If players have the same highest card, then the value of the sequence counts.
A high card in poker occurs when no cards are of the same suit. A high card is simply a set of five cards with no matching ranks. In Texas Hold'em poker, an Ace High is the highest-ranking card while a 9 High Card is the lowest hand.
When you do not have one-pair, then the combination is a high card. All the cards are not of the exact same suit. Here, the card is valued on the basis of its highest-ranking card. Here are some examples of High Card:
1) Ace of Diamonds, Queen of Hearts, 9 of Hearts, 5 of Clubs, 3 of Diamonds

While selecting a player to deal, to move to another table, or to choose a game, poker players deal with one card, and the player with high card by suit is selected. A number of players can be selected with this method.
In games where you require the player to open the betting round with the lowest ranking face-up card, the ties can be broken by a high card suit. In low stud games like razz and Seven-card-stud, this technique is used.
When two players hands end up in a tie, the pot must be split evenly between them. When there is an occurrence of an odd amount of money that needs to be split evenly, the odd low- denomination chip can be given to the player who has the high card by suit. This method is applied in high-low split games.
In poker tournaments, a chip race is used to exchange a large number of poker chips for smaller chips of a higher denomination. The value, however, remains the same. Ties in the deal is broken by a high card suit.
