IPL: 5 Players with most runs against CSK

It is always challenging for any cricketer to rack up impressive numbers against a team like Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who’ve been crowned as the IPL champions on three occasions to date and are the only team to make their way into the playoffs in each edition that they have played. so who has the most runs against csk?

Ever since the inception of the IPL, the Men in Yellow have been led by MS Dhoni who has played a key role in all their victories be it as a wicket-keeper, batsman, or captain. And considering how great a game reader he is, someone who can predict the batsman’s next more for a delivery, one can say that the task of scoring runs against Dhoni & Co becomes all the more grueling.

However, there have been few batsmen to have managed to get the better of the Chennai Super Kings in the encounters held in the last 12 years. Let’s take a look at five players with the most runs against CSK in IPL  –

5. Shane Watson (480 runs in 12 Innings)

(Teams Played: Rajasthan Royals)

Though the former Australian cricketer is now a member of the Chennai Super Kings, the stats speak for themselves that he has had his successes against the Dhoni-led unit while he played for Rajasthan Royals.

The 39-year-old was awarded the player of the tournament for his ripper of exhibitions in the inaugural edition of IPL and was among the core figures in the Royals’ triumph till the time he played with them.

Averaging 43.63, a strike rate of 150-plus, four fifties and a century to his name, one could say that Watson enjoyed playing against CSK in the previous IPL encounters.

4. Robin Uthappa (538 runs in 20 Innings)

(Teams Played: Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Pune Warriors India, Kolkata Knight Riders)

Without an iota of doubt, Uthappa is one of the most stylish players to have participated in IPL.  His ability to walk down the track and smash the opponents for fun can make anyone go gaga over him.

The Karnataka-lad has some of his prominent numbers in IPL while taking on the contest versus CSK. Averaging 31.64 and striking at a  rate of 135-plus, Uthappa has smashed 20 sixes and 54 fours, with a personal best 80* against the most consistent side in the history of IPL.

3. Shikhar Dhawan (641 runs in 21 Innings)

(Teams Played: Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals)

Dhawa might have been a part of many teams, but, he likes the challenge offered by CSK which is evident from his numbers, as he has amassed over 640 runs, averages 35.61, strikes at 122.56, and holds 6 fifty-plus totals under his belt.

The southpaw had a great run with the bat in IPL 2019, amassing over 520 runs and five fifties. Being one of the most experienced players in IPL, his gameplay could play a massive role for Delhi Capitals in neutralizing Dhoni’s unit amidst the conditions of UAE.

2. Rohit Sharma  (705 runs in 27 Innings)

(Teams Played: Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians)

Not just an excellent captain who knows how to hold his nerves against the three-time champions, Rohit has been effective as a batsman while tackling Dhoni’s men in IPL.

In those 27 innings, the Mumbaikar has batted at a strike rate of 125.00 and managed to smash seven half-centuries; the most by any player against CSK.

Taking into account his exceptional form in the limited-overs played for last one year, it shouldn’t be surprising if Hitman emerges as one of the highest run-getters in IPL 2020, in the process, dominating the batting charts in the El Classico of the tournament.

1. Virat Kohli (747 runs in 23 Innings)

(Teams Played: Royal Challengers Bangalore)

One man whose presence on-field further fuels the RCB-CSK rivalry is Virat Kohli. With over 5400 runs in his kitty, the Delhi-born is currently the highest run-scorer in IPL and along with that, he holds the record of most runs against their arch-rivals.

So far, Virat has struck 6 fifties and has an average and strike rate of 37.35 and 124.08 respectively. Also, he has clobbered 30 sixes versus CSK, which is the joint-second most number of sixes, alongside Chris Gayle.

Having received the much-needed break, the skipper would be looking to steer past the 800-run mark in the upcoming edition of IPL in the United Arab Emirates.
