Yashasvi Jaiswal – 13 balls vs Kolkata Knight Riders (2023)

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young opener for the Rajasthan Royals, holds the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. He achieved this feat by scoring his fifty in just 13 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 11, 2023. Overall, he remained unbeaten on 98 from 47 balls.

KL Rahul – 14 balls vs Delhi Capitals, Mohali (2018)

KL Rahul has been in some form over the last few years in the IPL, carving a niche for himself as one of the best ball strikers in the competition. In April 2018, while playing for Punjab Kings, Rahul scorched a 14-ball half-century against Delhi Capitals, which remains the fastest half-century in the history of the IPL. It might come as a surprise that Rahul holds the record for the IPL fastest 50 as he often seems a more classical batsman rather than one of a marauder like Chris Gayle. However, on this day, Rahul was unstoppable. Chasing Delhi’s middling target of 167, Rahul started on fifth gear and never got his foot off the pedal. In all, Rahul hit six fours, and four sixes in his knock as Mohali was treated to one of the most special knocks ever seen.

Pat Cummins – 14 balls vs Mumbai Indians, MCA, Pune (2022)

It took the Indian Premier League four long years before another batsman managed to attain KL Rahul’s record. However, it came in the most dramatic of fashions as Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins took five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians to the stands with a blistering knock.

Cummins had come to bat in the 14th over when KKR were struggling at 101-5 while chasing a target of 162 runs. And while Venkatesh Iyer stood solid at one end, Cummins was expected to show nerves as this was his first match in IPL 2022. However, the Aussi hit four boundaries and six sixes to win KKR the match by the 16th over.

Yusuf Pathan – 15 balls vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata (2014)

Yusuf Pathan grabbed all the limelight in Rajasthan Royals’ win in the first season of the IPL as a fierce hitter of the ball. At the time, there were not many power hitters in India, and Yusuf, with his belligerent shot-making, soon became the talk of the town. Soon after, Kolkata Knight Riders picked him up in the auctions, and Yusuf continued with his merry ways there. In 2014 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he brought down the roof at Eden Gardens. Batting first, Hyderabad were restricted to 160/7 in their 20 overs.

However, the Eden surface was playing tricks, and Hyderabad had good bowlers in their ranks. None of that mattered to Yusuf. The belligerent right-hander took the SRH bowlers to the cleaners smashing a half-century of a mere 15 balls, the then fastest fifty in IPL history. Not one SRH bowler was spared as Yusuf finished with 72 off just 22 balls, his innings studded with five fours and seven maximums. It was hitting of the highest order and KKR managed to chase the target of 161 in just 14.2 overs.

Sunil Narine – 15 balls vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Bengaluru (2017)

Sunil Narine is not often known for his long hits. Of course, he can smack a long ball, but that generally happens at the end of the innings and not for long. However, Kolkata Knight Riders took a chance with Narine during the 2017 season and sent him up to open the batting. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 46 of Ipl 2017, Narine displayed brute hitting of the highest order. KKR were chasing a relatively small target of 159.

Narine made even light work of the chase as he creamed a half-century off 15 balls smashing the RCB to all quarters. This ranks third in the list of IPL fastest 50. He eventually finished on 54 off 17 balls, his innings consisting of 6 fours and 4 sixes. Such was his power-hitting that even Chris Lynn was left to be just a spectator at the other end. Before realizing what hit them, RCB had already lost the match.

Suresh Raina – 16 balls vs Punjab Kings, Mumbai (2014)

Suresh Raina has been one of the best batsmen the IPL has ever seen. He was the highest run-scorer in the league for the longest time before Virat Kohli went past him. The backbone of Chennai Super Kings’ batting and usually seen as the drafter in the middle order. However, against Punjab Kings in 2014, Raina brought out a form that few had seen before. Batting first Punjab Kings, led by Virender Sehwag’s masterful 122, racked up 226/6.
