The tournament divides fans like no other, with millions of opinions formed. This mostly occurs when the talk is about who is the most dangerous batsman in IPL. Currently into its 14th season, the IPL and has seen a fair few batsmen soar their way into greatness over the years. Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina all blossomed in this tournament and can all be rated as the most dangerous batsmen in IPL.

The answer to who is the most dangerous batsman in the IPL most certainly is Virat Kohli. The Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, who has been with the same franchise since 2008, has been one of the most dangerous batsman since the start. Virat Kohli is the top run-getter of IPL and the most successful batsman. He has so far scored 6076 runs in 199 IPL matches, comfortably clear of the second-ranked Shikhar Dhawan.

Here, we will talk in detail about the most dangerous batsmen in the IPL.

Current Team: Royal Challengers Bangalore

If we consider the consistency, Virat Kohli is clearly the most dangerous batsman in IPL history. 6076 runs in 199 IPL matches averaging 37.98, including 40 half-centuries and 5 tons – Kohli is an IPL beast. He is the highest run-scorer in IPL and has scored them in fewer matches than some of his compatriots.

Virat Kohli has been with the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise since 2008, one of the very few players to have turned out for just one team. He was made captain of the side in 2013 and has led them since. While Bangalore has never won an IPL trophy, that has hardly to do with Kohli’s batting.

Kohli has consistently been at the top of the run charts for this team and one of the most dangerous batsmen in IPL. His record of 973 runs in a single season in 2016 is yet to be overhauled, and there is a fair chance it might never will. One of the best players to have turned out in the IPL, de Villiers, first played for Delhi Capitals but did not have the best of returns. However, his fortunes changed once the Bangalore-based franchise recruited him. The South African became a lynchpin on the RCB side and is still seen as one of the best finishers in the IPL.

In all, de Villiers has scored 5056 runs in 179 IPL at a strike rate of 152.4 and an average of 40.77. De Villiers’ partnership with Kohli is also well documented, and the duo has together amassed runs aplenty. All said and done, AB de Villiers is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the IPL.

He is still in third place for the most runs scored by a batsman in IPL with 5491 runs in 200 matches at an average of 33.08 and strike rate of 136.9. What makes Dhawan a dangerous batsman in the competition is his ability to switch gears at will. He can be the aggressor, the anchor and can rotate strike depending on the need of the hour. He had a bumper 2020 season where he finished as the second-highest scorer in the tournament.
