Former India skipper Virat Kohli is the fastest to 3000 runs in T20 international cricket. He reached the milestone in 81 innings and remains the fastest to complete 3000 runs in in the shortest format till date.

Kohli reached the 3000-run mark in March 2021 against England in Ahmedabad after making his debut in June 2010 in the format. Pakistan’s Babar Azam equalled Virat Kohli’s record in September 2022 when he completed 3000 T20I runs against England in Lahore. However, Kohli still remains the first player to breach the 3000-run mark in T20I cricket.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, the former India skipper, is the fastest to 3000 runs in T20I cricket while Babar Azam equalled his feat in September 2022. Both the players reached the milestone in 81 innings. As far as their T20I career is concerned, Kohli has played 115 T20Is so far scoring 4008 runs at an average of 52.73 with one century and 37 half-centuries. He has scored these runs at a strike-rate of 137.96.

Babar Azam

On the other hand, Babar Azam has played 99 T20Is in his career thus far amassing 3355 runs at an average of 41.41 and a strike rate of 127.80. He has hit 2 centuries and 30 half-centuries and looks set to add more to his tally in the coming years.

Aaron Finch

Apart from Kohli and Babar, only four more players have completed 3000 runs in T20I cricket. Australia’s T20I skipper Aaron Finch is the next in the list of fastest players to reach 3000 runs in T20I cricket. He completed the milestone in 98 innings during his career against England in Perth in October 2022.

There is no clarity at the moment over Aaron Finch’s career in T20I cricket but he is playing in the Big Bash League for Melbourne Renegades. As far as his career is concerned, he has played for Australia in 103 matches in T20I cricket scoring 3120 runs at an average of 34.28 and a strike rate of 142.53 with two centuries and 17 half-centuries to his name. It remains to be seen if he will return to play the shortest format of the game for Australia.

Martin Guptill

New Zealand veteran Martin Guptill is next on the list to be one of the fastest to reach 3000 runs in T20 International cricket history. He completed the milestone in 101 innings after featuring 105 matches for his country. Guptill reach the 3000-run mark in November 2021 against Scotland. Overall, Guptill has played 122 T20Is for the BlackCaps scoring 3531 runs at an average of 31.81 and a strike rate of 136. He has also smashed two centuries and 20 half-centuries. Currently, Guptill is out of favour on the national side with Finn Allen emerging as his replacement. Perhaps, Guptill also didn’t accept the national contract offer from New Zealand Cricket (NZC) to explore more playing opportunities in different T20 Leagues.

Rohit Sharma

India’s all-format captain currently, Rohit Sharma is the fifth fastest to reach 3000 runs in T20 International cricket. He reached the milestone in the game against Namibia in November 2021 during the T20 World Cup after making his debut in 2007 and in 108 innings. He has so far played 148 T20Is amassing 3853 runs at an average of 31.32 and a strike rate of almost 140. He hasn’t played a single T20I since the World Cup last year and rumours are rife that Hardik Pandya will replace him as T20 captain of team India. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. It looks imperative for Rohit to step aside from the shortest format with the next World Cup to be played in 2024. However, the man is yet to come up with any comment after recently suggesting that he has decided not to give up the format and will take a decision after playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Paul Stirling

The last player to complete 3000 runs in T20 international cricket is Ireland veteran Paul Stirling. He has been the slowest among the players to complete the milestone but has managed to reach 3000 runs 113 innings in T20I cricket. Stirling has played a lot of T20 matches in his career including 121 at the international level. He has scored 3181 runs at an average of almost 29 and a strike-rate of 134.78 with 1 century and 21 half-centuries. Stirling reached the 3000-run mark in the game against Afghanistan in Belfast in August 2022.
